A 65-year-old man in Austria got a surprise when he sat on his toilet Monday morning, according to an AP report

The culprit: a 1.6-meter (5 1/4-foot) python that apparently escaped from his neighbor’s apartment and traveled through the drains.

The victim “felt a ‘nip’ in the genital area,” local police told the AP in a statement. It was then that he noticed an albino reticulated python in the toilet.

The snake apparently had escaped unnoticed from the apartment of the man’s 24-year-old neighbor. It wasn’t immediately possible to figure out how it escaped and how it got into the toilet, but police said it may have made its way through the drains.

The neighbor kept 11 non-venomous constrictor snakes and a gecko in terrariums and drawers in his apartment, the report said.

According to police, the victim suffered only minor injuries. The reptile was cleaned before it was returned to its owner, who is now under investigation on “suspicion of causing bodily harm by negligence.”

Reticulated pythons don’t often eat humans, but it’s happened before. In 2017, an Indonesian farmer was swallowed whole by a 23-foot reticulated python, USA Today reported.

The reticulated python — the longest-living snake species in the world — coil around their prey and squeeze them until they’re dead in a couple minutes, Cornell Professor Dr. Harry W. Greene told the newspaper
