Beyond Meat is expanding its selection at 2,100 Walmart locations — and giving some shoppers free samples to celebrate.

The plant-based meat producer announced Wednesday morning Beyond Meatballs will be available at 2,100 Walmart stores that already sell Beyond Meat products.

Beyond Meat will advertise the expansion with free samples of Beyond Meat products for Walmart shoppers. Beyond Meat food trunks across Southern California and Dallas will pop up in parking lots in neighborhood stores, the company said in a release.

“The addition of Beyond Meatballs to Walmart shelves allows us to make available more of our delicious, nutritious and sustainable plant-based options,” Beyond Meat executive Chuck Muth said in a statement.

Beyond Meat shares tumbled earlier this week after the food maker announced a higher than expected revenue loss in the past three months, as customers — both in grocery stores and restaurants — bought less of the meat-alternative.

Beyond Meat recently brought its products to 7,000 CVS locations after CEO Ethan Brown said foodservice sales through restaurants that sell Beyond Meat, including Carl’s Jr. and BurgerFi, dropped 31% year-over-year in 2020.

Brown said he is optimistic sales in restaurants will increase as the US begins opening up as COVID-19 vaccinations speed up.

Beyond Meat competitor Impossible Foods is reportedly eyeing an initial public offering that could give the company a $10 billion valuation.
