Rebecaa Miskin appointed boss of Beano publisher DC Thomson

Cripes, Gnasher, there’s a new big cheese in town: Rebecaa Miskin is new boss of Beano publisher DC Thomson

Controversial media executive Rebecca Miskin has been appointed boss at the publisher of the Beano.

Miskin has been tasked with trying to get DC Thomson, which publishes the Dandy, the Beano – home of Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and Minnie the Minx – and local newspapers, back into profit.

Last year it posted a £180million loss, which it blamed on the pandemic.

Miskin, 56 this month, joined last year with a view to taking it into the digital age.

But she is no stranger to controversy having founded Gloo, which listed in 2015 and sought to buy media firms valued at up to £1bn.

It raised £30million from backers but never did a deal and after three years put itself into liquidation having paid just over £4million in salaries and benefits, including more than £1million in bonuses over two years, to top managers.

Miskin’s total remuneration rose to £431,000 in the year to March 2017.

She said: ‘DC Thomson was founded on creativity and entrepreneurialism.

As the company transforms to prepare itself for the future, it is my mission to nurture that spirit.’
