Boosting reputation and morale: Tech firm on MEN award win – and what came next

A Greater Manchester-based software development company has described its “delight” at winning one of the region’s most prestigious awards – and how it led to an improved reputation and morale boost for staff.

Godel Technologies has provided an update since winning the Mitchell Henry prize at 2019’s MEN Business Awards – an accolade given to the most ambitious and growing business in the city region.

Michelle Nock, vice president, marketing at Godel, which in February announced a 30% year-on-year increase in turnover and was this month named in our Greater Manchester Tech 50, said the win had encouraged staff to strive for further success.

In 2019, Godel won the Mitchell Henry Prize sponsored by LDC – an award named after the financier and MP who started the Manchester Evening News back in the 1800s.

The prize celebrates the most ambitious and growing business in Manchester – and was given to Godel after it grew by over 50% in headcount – and recorded consecutive year-on-year revenue growth for the previous four years.

The judges said: “The growth in this company has been exponential with impressive revenue growth thanks to a demand in tech talent which Godel is helping to rapidly deliver while maintaining growth across all its capabilities.”

Almost two years on, Michelle Nock of Godel has spoken about the benefits of winning the prestigious award.

She said: “We were delighted to have even been considered for the Henry Mitchell Prize, especially given the wealth and stature of the other organisations which we were up against.

“Not only did winning the award improve our reputation, it’s gave our employees a morale boost, encouraging them to continue to strive for further success.”

This year, the MEN Business Awards are lucky enough to have five headline sponsors. The businesses sponsoring the awards are:

She said despite the win, the past year had been a challenge for the firm, but that the strength of its communication-based culture has made it possible for the company to continue to achieve year on year growth once again.

Godel credits a lot of this to the resilience of its employees, who “have found the strength within them to grow as individuals, keep working closely together, and deliver for clients each day”.

Separated by home working, the business took the chance to “understand its employees on a more personal level”, and “build new ways of connecting our people”.

She said a “firm attribute” of Godel’s ethos was innovation – which was vital during the pandemic.

She said not only were Godel’s methods of doing business changing, but so were its clients, making it more important than ever that the company was able to provide a service across a serious geographical barrier.
