Developer starts 60 home housing development scheme on Anglesey

A new housing development scheme on Anglesey has recently started near the Coleg Menai Pencraig campus in Llangefni.

The £9.6m project, which is led by ClwydAlyn in partnership with Anglesey County Council and Welsh Government, will create 60 new affordable homes that will be available to buy or rent by May 2023.

The development by Anwyl will offer energy efficient homes with a range of sustainable technologies, including air source heat pumps that will reduce heating costs and lower the carbon emissions.

Craig Sparrow, executive director at ClwydAlyn, said: “This is an exciting new scheme on Anglesey that will provide high quality affordable homes and will address a key need for housing in the local area as well as provide a great learning opportunity for students from the college.

“Our mission is to beat poverty and ensure that everyone in North Wales has access to excellent quality housing.

“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Anwyl Partnerships and Anglesey County Council to bring the scheme to fruition and meet local demands, as well as boosting local employment.”

Anwyl Partnerships will be delivering construction works at the site, utilising its local in‐house project team supported by a local supply chain, comprising contractors and suppliers.

It comes as Anwyl Homes’ Cheshire and North Wales region has reported a record number of new homes completions for 2021 and is on course for further growth over the next year.

The Flintshire-based housebuilder completed 487 homes during its last financial year, which ended on September 30 – an increase of 22% on the previous year.

Mike Nevitt, managing director of Anwyl Partnerships, said: “This is a large project that essentially includes the construction of a brand new community in Llangefni, creating 60 much needed affordable homes for rent/sale.

“Community really does matter with this project and the site has been designed to help cultivate this ethos. Our approach will marry the long term vision of our clients and will be community led throughout.”

Anglesey Council’s Housing portfolio holder Cllr Alun Mummery said: “I’m pleased to see that the work has started in Llangefni. We have seen significant increases in house prices on Anglesey recently and there is an even greater need to support local families to get on the housing ladder.

“This development will help us do this; benefiting local companies and the economy.”

This scheme is part of ClwydAlyn’s development programme to deliver further 1500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 at an investment of £250m bringing the total number of homes in management to over 7,500.
