Home to some of the UK’s most innovative and up-and-coming businesses, the East Midlands region continues to put hospitality on the map.
Whether its traditional inns, bespoke cafes or even quirky cocktail bars, the local industry accounts for 3.7% of all UK businesses.
Despite its size and overall popularity, the hospitality sector was arguably one of the most hard-hit industries during the pandemic, with many closing its doors for months at a time.
On average, the industry experienced more than 450 days of closures and lost an estimated £53bn during 2020 alone.
During this period of uncertainty, many businesses found themselves adapting to changes and finding new ways to operate, which is why PPL PRS chose to support the industry at the recent Leicestershire Live Business Awards, 2021.
In support of local businesses, PPL PRS froze music license payments for establishments that were forced to close due to restrictions.
No matter how big or small, companies only had to pay once they were able to re-open and welcome back customers.
Usually, businesses and organisations who use music on their premises purchase an annual licence known as TheMusicLicence.
Why do you need a license?
Under The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, permission is needed from the relevant copyright holders – those people who create music – in order to play or perform music in public.
TheMusicLicence gives you this permission, in relation to the vast majority of commercially available music. This ranges from grassroots and independent artists and composers through to the biggest names in the business.
This ensures that the people who create music are fairly rewarded for their talent and work.
Get the license
TheMusicLicence allows businesses to play all commercially available music legally and freely. whether this is creating the right atmosphere, motivating staff or helping to define their brand and identity.
