KCom’s £100m network expansion crowned Telecoms Project of the Year

KCom’s focus on regional growth has been recognised with a prestigious national award for its £100 million full fibre network expansion.

The East Yorkshire-based broadband provider’s network rollout was named Telecoms Project of the Year at the National Technology Awards ceremony in London.

KCom chief executive Dale Raneberg said: “I’m thrilled that our ambitious expansion programme, bringing the benefits of full fibre broadband to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, has been recognised with this national award.

“This award is a testament to all the hard work that colleagues across KCom have put into making our expansion a success and to delivering one of the best broadband networks in the UK.

“Having access to ultrafast broadband can be life changing not only for people at home but is essential for creating new opportunities and attracting investment into our region, creating a prosperous future for everyone.”

Dale Raneberg, KCom chief executive.

KCom saw off competition from fellow finalists Airband, Glide and national heavyweight Vodafone to claim the award which marks the company’s continued expansion to new communities in East Yorkshire and – for the first time in its 117-year history – across the Humber to North Lincolnshire.

During the past year, the expansion programme has continued apace and KCom’s fibre network can be found in Driffield, Nafferton, Market Weighton, Pocklington, Goole, Selby, Howden, Bridlington, Hornsea, Withernsea, Barton, Bishop Burton, Brigg, Broughton, Hibaldstow, Goxhill, Scawby, Messingham and Epworth.

KCOM was recently shortlisted for two awards at the Connected Britain Awards in the Project Rollout and Full Fibre ISP Innovation Award categories.

It has also been shortlisted in the Social Impact and Best Infrastructure categories at the forthcoming Internet Service Providers Association Awards (ISPAs). The Social Impact Award nomination recognises KCOM’s efforts to help customers, vulnerable people, and health care works during the pandemic lockdowns – as well as its wider ongoing commitment to supporting local communities.
