NottinghamLive’s 2021 Business Awards Not-For-Profit Finalists are…

The NottinghamshireLive Business Awards are almost here – and after a period of judging, our finalists have been decided. The awards, in association with Champions (UK) PLC, will be held on October 14 – for more information, visit the official website.

Each year, we use the awards as a chance to highlight the incredible work done by Nottinghamshire’s varied businesses, and their achievements over the year. The past year has been a particular challenge for businesses and businesspeople across Nottinghamshire – which is why we feel that the awards are more important than ever.

One type of business that was hit particularly hard by the pandemic was not-for-profit organisations. Often running on a low budget and dependent on fundraising, the pandemic posed an extremely serious threat to the ability of not-for-profits to maintain their operations. Nonetheless, many of these organisations worked tirelessly to ensure they were able to keep serving their communities, or would be ready to the moment the pandemic ended.

The Not-For-Profit Organisation category – sponsored by De Vere – is for public sector, charitable and not-for-profit organisations that are dedicated to enriching their community. No matter what the sector, the award is for organisations that put people before profit every time.

The NottinghamshireLive Buisiness awards give us the chance to celebrate the best in business across the region. This year’s Not-For-Profit Organisation sponsor is De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre. The conference centre offers state-of-the-art meetings and events space, banqueting suites and magnificent, contemporary public spaces.

Tom Waldron-Lynch, general manager at De Vere said: “For De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel, the Nottinghamshire Live Business Awards allows us to become close to the business community and to also support local companies and organisations. Through hosting various events at our venue, we see the importance of all the hard work these organisations do, even more so in the current climate, and this is the perfect time for us all to celebrate their achievements.”

The finalists in the Not-For-Profit Organisation category are:

Maggie’s Nottingham

Maggie’s offers the best possible support free to anyone with cancer and their families who walk through its doors. Maggie’s helps people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. All their support is free and open to all, with no referral or appointment required. Their much-loved centres are found alongside NHS hospitals and, where no access is possible, support is provided online. A team of professionals, drawn from cancer support specialists, psychologists and benefit advisors provide a calming environment from Nottingham’s City Hospital campus.

Broadway Cinema

Broadway Cinema is nationally recognised as the cultural leader for independent cinema, arts and technology in the Midlands. With a mission to inspire creativity and a lifelong love of film, the cinema encourages a welcoming film community by adapting the space for regular dementia-friendly screenings and provides suitable environments for those on the autism spectrum. It also gives parents respite with monthly parent and baby screenings. Broadway Cinema aims to nurture talent behind the projector, by supporting young people to begin their film or artistic careers with the BFI Film Academy and by supporting existing filmmakers with access to project funding and equipment.
