Pension Geeks gear up for biggest ever savings crusade Pension Awareness Live

The Grimsby team behind “savings crusade” Pension Awareness Live has secured Steph McGovern and ministerial backing to kickstart this year’s national conversation.

Pension Geeks, the engagement agency that has brought the topic to the fore having feared many were “walking into later life poverty”, is gearing up for the first annual event as part of Aegon UK.

It was acquired earlier this year, providing a platform to enhance a seven year old kitchen table start-up that caught the eye of blue chip clients and sector stalwarts.

McGovern, a highly respected financial and business broadcast journalist and television presenter, will help put the spotlight on the importance of pensions.

A fellow proud northern voice, she will join the Pension Geeks and friendly industry experts for a week of live webinars, Q&A sessions, and one-to-one talks – all free of charge and impartial – to help consumers make sense of their savings.

This year brings forward the biggest industry-wide backing since inception, as the team hopes to build on the 16,000 participants in 2020.

Rachel Parkinson, head geek, said: “Pension Awareness Live is all about making a difference. At Pension Geeks we’re committed to providing real, practical help to enable consumers to understand and get to grips with their future finances – and we’re so fortunate that the industry and particularly our partner, Now Pensions, share this same goal. The event is now in its eighth year and has grown from just one day to become an industry wide week of fantastic helpful resources.

“This year will see us delivering a series of webinars and Q&A sessions – all live and streamed from our online platform – and we’re so excited to have the wonderful Steph McGovern joining us!

“I urge everyone to join us during the week – it’s all free, impartial and you can access the content from the comfort of your own home. All you need to do is go to our website and register. We know pensions can seem like a minefield, so if ever there was a time to get to grips with your pension – it’s now.”

The week runs from September 13, completely online again for the second year running.

Welcoming the return, Pensions Minister Guy Opperman said: “I am proud to support Pension Geeks and their partner Now Pensions in their endeavours to help spread awareness about all things pensions.

“From the very basics, to the more technical aspects of where your money is invested – Pensions Awareness Week puts retirement savings in the limelight and gets people thinking about later life planning.

“It’s never too early or too late to start thinking about making sure you are on track for the financial future you want. I urge anyone who has been thinking about retirement planning to take advantage of what is on offer. All webinars are free and there are also opportunities to speak with experts one-to-one, to help you get a handle on your pension.”

September 15 is the official Pension Awareness Day, with hashtag #PAD20 trending last time out.
