Companies large and small from across the whole of the North West have been announcing major appointments and promotions over the last seven days.

Businesses based in the likes of Manchester, Liverpool, Chester and further afield have been in contact since our most recent North West appointments round up.

Businesses in sectors from as diverse as retail, law and property are among those who have made a series of moves in the last week.

Ladbible

Boohoo co-founders Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane

A co-founder of fast fashion giant Boohoo has joined the board of Manchester-based social publishing group LadBible ahead of its planned IPO.

Carol Kane has become a non-executive director at the group, according to newly-filed documents.

The move comes after her fellow Boohoo co-founder Mahmud Kamani stepped down from the board recently.

The group’s parent company, LBG Media, was co-founded in 2012 by chief executive Alexander (Solly) Solomou and chief operating officer Arian Kalantari while studying at university.

JD Sports

Greater Manchester-headquartered JD Sports has appointed Mahbobeh Sabetnia as a non-executive director.

She has held executive roles within Amazon , McDonald’s, HSBC and, most recently, Mars.

Executive chairman Peter Cowgill said: “On behalf of the board and the Nominations Committee, I am pleased to welcome Mahbobeh Sabetnia to the board of directors.

“Mahbobeh has very relevant digital and e-commerce experience and her expertise will add significantly to the balance and skill sets of the JD board.

“I have every confidence that she will be a real asset, as we continue the global expansion of our best in class digital and physical retail proposition.

“The appointment of Mahbobeh will further strengthen the board for the benefit of all stakeholders.”

AJ Bell

AJ Bell has moved into 4 Exchange Quay, Salford Quays

Salford-headquartered AJ Bell has confirmed has appointed Peter Birch as its next chief financial officer.

Mr Birch will officially join the listed company on July 1, 2022.

He is current y a financial services audit and assurance partner at Deloitte.

Mr Birch will replace Michael Summersgill, who, as announced in August, was appointed deputy chief executive.

Private rental sector and build to rent residential and urban regeneration specialist, Sigma Capital Group, made two new Manchester appointments.

Laura Pitcher has joined the team in a legal counsel role in the city.

Her most recent appointment was property solicitor for national social housing provider, The Riverside Group.

In her new role at Sigma, she will support the senior legal counsel with property focussed legal work particularly focussing on Sigma’s sites in the regions.

Mark Nicklin also joins Sigma as site inspector based in Manchester but with a remit to travel the whole of the UK to all site locations.

He has been hired from his role as contracts manager at Taylor Wimpey.

IoD

The Institute of Directors has strengthened its Manchester team with the appointment of Danny Clarke.

Mr Clarke is commercial director of the National Federation of Builders, with responsibility for the growth and retention of membership.

He joins the IoD Manchester leadership team as an ambassador.

Mr Clarke has held commercial and operational posts in the public sector as well as board-level roles across industries including construction.

His early career included spells as a train operator, holiday rep and the youngest branch secretary of RMT transport union.

New Directions Education

New Directions Education has strengthened its presence in Merseyside with an all-new specialist recruitment team to meet the rising demand for education staff across the region.

The recruitment and training provider has appointed two expert education recruiters in response to its increasing local business commitments.

Recruitment consultant Frank Richards, who was born and raised in Merseyside, has been joined by fellow recruitment consultant Paul Hampton and business development manager Sarah Hughes.

Kinaxia Logistics

Macclesfield-based Kinaxia Logistics has appointed Neil Ashworth to its board to support the development and roll-out of its digitalisation strategy.

Mr Ashworth has more than 25 years’ board level experience in the logistics, supply chain, retail and e-commerce industries.

He is a former chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and in a recent role was the director of delivery channels for the Department of Health and Social Care’s Covid-19 testing programme across the UK.

Remington

Manchester-based Remington has announced TV personality, model and businesswoman Lucy Mecklenburgh as its first-ever UK haircare ambassador.

The 12-month partnership will see her work with Remington to “leverage her influence and following to continue driving the buzz around recent launches”.

Her role will include promoting the products throughout the 12-month partnership, supporting impactful campaigns and the brand’s wider strategy to ensure the Hydraluxe ranges are the go-to choice for her audience, which aligns with Remington’s core consumer.

MHA Moore and Smalley

Accountancy and business advisory firm MHA Moore and Smalley has appointed a new tax manager to support the continued growth of its Manchester office.

Scott Booth has joined the company from DTE Business Advisers where he worked for eight years, most recently as tax manager.

He will work across a range of sectors, advising clients on a wide range of tax advisory issues.

Watsons Solicitors

A Warrington law firm has strengthened its growing family department with the recruitment of a new solicitor.

Lauren Soutar joins Watsons Solicitors from a fellow Cheshire-based firm, bringing the total number in the family department to four full time solicitors.

A graduate of the University of Liverpool, she went on take the legal practice course in Chester before qualifying as a solicitor in 2017.

Truman

North-West based construction company Truman has appointed Will Prew as operations director.

He will oversee all Truman’s projects including: Urban Hub, a 425-student apartment in Preston for developer, Pillars; Bridge St, an 18-bed boutique hotel in Chester with accompanying restaurant and spa for the Wildes Group; and the new 257-bed Molo Hotel in heart of Liverpool centre.

Mr Prew said: “I have always thrived on job satisfaction and ensuring the team around me have the tools to succeed.

Architectural, planning and building surveying practice, Cassidy + Ashton has promoted three of its planning team.

Ben Thornley and Claire Parker take on roles as senior town planners, with Jordan Balazs progressing into a role as a town planner.

Mr Thornley joined Cassidy + Ashton in 2018 and is based at the practice’s Chester office.

Based in the practice’s Preston office, Claire Parker began her career at Cassidy + Ashton as a student on work experience in the summer of 2012.

Having joined Cassidy + Ashton as a graduate in 2018, Jordan Balazs continued her studies part-time towards a master’s degree in town and regional planning.

Working alongside Claire Parker in the Preston office, she has taken on a lead role in planning projects since promotion, managing residential, educational and commercial schemes of all sizes.

Velstar

Liverpool-based agency Velstar has made six new hires as it prepares for ambitious growth in 2022.

Amit Singh joins as senior front-end developer, with over a decade of experience designing and developing bespoke online stores for direct-to-consumer brands.

Razi Syed has also been appointed the role of senior front-end developer.

Also joining the development team as junior front-end developer is Liverpool Hope University graduate, Richard Waters.

Meanwhile, Vince Hollywood has been hired to strengthen the back-end development team’s capabilities.

Michael Gainford fills the newly-created role as tester and Jack Powell has joined as junior UX/UI designer.

Bank North

Manchester-based Bank North has appointed Louise Halliwell as head of savings.

She joins following almost eight years at the Yorkshire Building Society, as a senior manager, in which she led the savings products department across a range of the group’s brands.

She brings more than 20 years of banking experience, the last 12 of which as a savings specialist.

Before joining the Yorkshire Building Society, she worked at the Skipton Building Society, overseeing sustainable balance sheet growth across the building society’s savings portfolio.

CBRE

CBRE has further strengthened its Northern UK Development team in Manchester with the appointment of Andrew Playfer as senior director.

He joins the team from Cheshire West and Chester Council where he was head of property.

His role with the council involved team restructuring, asset management, disposal and investment policy planning, as well as implementing processes and process mapping across the property team.

Prior to that he was director for AEW UK, which saw him lead on the asset management of its shopping centre portfolio and associate director for JLL, where he managed the Standard Life Shopping Centre portfolio.

Brown Shipley

Brown Shipley has appointed Georgina Breeze as a client advisor for Manchester.

She will will report to Martin Cuthbert, head of Brown Shipley’s Manchester office.

She brings 13 years of experience, joining from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management where she spent the last 10 years looking after high net worth and entrepreneur clients, providing investment advice on discretionary and advisory portfolios.

Prior to her time at Barclays Wealth, Georgina Breeze started her career in financial services at St. James’s Place.

Social Tech Communications

Manchester-based PR and communications agency Social Tech Communications has appointed Helen Oldham as chairwoman.

Bury and Bolton-based law firm Clough & Willis has grown its private client department with the appointment of Rafia Faruk as its newest paralegal.

She joins from Co-op Legal Services where she worked for two and a half years. She has also worked at Slater and Gordon.

Her new role will see her handle a broad caseload of private client matters including the drafting of LPAs and wills as well as estate administration.
