Even though the transfer window has just closed, many top clubs are already looking ahead to January and beyond to the summer for the next big money move
The last few days of the transfer window saw a chaotic close to the summer, with major names changing teams to beloved homecomings or heartbreaking departures.
Some new signings have made emphatic starts and stamped their claim on a starting XI place whereas others have had stuttering starts to Premier League life.
However, even with the transfer window only recently shut, rumours of potential moves, swaps and loans have not abated.
Some of Europe’s hottest talents are already reportedly eyeing up moves abroad with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs already planning for January and next summer.
Here, Mirror Sport rounds up some of the hottest transfer rumours.
Arsenal and Juventus consider midfield swap deal
Grant Xhaka has had a rocky start to the season.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in a January move for the youngster who impressed under previous Juve manager Andrea Pirlo but has struggled this season.
Despite being an undeniable talent, McKennie’s season has been affected by off-pitch antics like when he was sent home from international duty after bringing people inside the American national team’s covid bubble.
Xhaka nearly left the Gunners for Roma then signed a new deal but it is rumoured Arteta still is not happy with the experienced international.
If Massimiliano Allegri continues to be unimpressed by McKennie he might consider a swap deal for the Swiss international.
Liverpool eye swoop for England golden boy
Liverpool has looked like a team reborn this season.
The struggles of last season seem long forgotten with key players back from injury and Anfield full once more.
Unbeaten so far, Liverpool never did get around to replacing the departed Georginio Wijnaldum who had been key in the Reds’ midfield until he traded Liverpool for Paris.
However, it’s now rumoured Liverpool are considering a January swoop for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham .
A skillful dribbler and talented all-round midfielder, Bellingham has impressed ever since his debut for Birmingham as their youngest ever player.
At Dortmund he has become a regular starter for the German giants, favoured on the right-side of a midfield diamond.
However, with his contract running for a few more years now and the 18-year-old enjoying life in west-Germany, it would take a huge offer to pry him away from Dortmund.
United and Chelsea uneasy on Rice price tag
On the final day of the transfer window, United completed a stunning deal to bring Cristiano Ronaldo home to United.
However, adding another attacker to an already stacked rostra was questioned by some who said United needed a defensive midfielder more.
This would explain United’s interest in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
The England international isn’t an out-and-out holding midfielder for club but was used there by Southgate during the Euros.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is reportedly a big fan of the Englishman, however, with three years left on his contract, West Ham have slapped a hefty £80-£100million price tag on him.
This has reportedly angered Rice himself who feels like West Ham have priced him out of a move.
It has also put breaks on any move just yet, but with Chelsea also interested in bringing the talented midfielder home again, a move could be on the cards yet.
In lieu of Kane Pep looks to Spain
Manchester City seemed to spend the entire transfer window trying to secure a big-money move for England striker Harry Kane.
City managed to secure the title with an indomitable unbeaten run through the late winter of last season, all without having a recognised No.9.
During the summer, they seemed set to address the single glaring issue in Pep’s squad, but Kane never came to City and they’ve been forced to settle instead for the £100million man, Jack Grealish.
However, it’s now being reported that Pep and City are looking to Spain for a Harry Kane replacement.
Mikel Oyarzabal plays more as a winger, but can play down the middle and has already bagged four goals in five La Liga games this season.
The talented Spaniard featured at Euro 2020 and City have been rumoured to be watching the Real Sociedad captain for a few years now.
However, any move for him would have to meet the nearly £70million release clause in his contract.
Chelsea swoop for fallen Dutchman
If anyone can be content with their start to the season it is Chelsea.
Unbeaten in all competitions, joint top of the league and quickly looking like the team to beat, Thomas Tuchel’s team are doing well.
But all is not perfect at Stamford Bridge as contract talks with star defender Antonio Rüdiger continue to stall over high wage demands.
Under Tuchel, the 28-year-old has been vital for the Blues, but as he enters the last 10-months of his contract, the star might end up leaving on a free if no agreement is reached.
With PSG and Bayern Munich circling, Chelsea have turned to a Dutchman struggling abroad for a potential solution.
Matthijs de Ligt has struggled so far this season, having fallen out of favour of Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri as the team has spluttered to an unimpressive start to Serie A.
However, the technically gifted defender is rumoured to be Tuchel’s top priority with a number of his own defenders, including Rudiger, with uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge.
De Ligt flourished in Ajax’s 2018/19 team who took the Champions League by storm and at only 22 has plenty of time left to reach his potential of a world-class centre-back.
