Oleksandr Usyk returns Anthony Joshua’s belts following fight

Paddy Power have refunded all Single Bets on Sonni Martinez to beat Campbell Hatton as a free bet after fans felt he was “robbed” by the decision.

Boxing fans were left bewildered after Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell, was crowned victorious over Martinez on the undercard of Anthony Joshua ’s fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

The controversial 58-57 was met with boos from the crowd at the Tottenham Stadium Hotspur after they felt Martinez should have been awarded the victory.

The 20-year-old was outclassed by his opponent and was forced to dig deep for his win.

Hatton entered the stadium to the familiar tune of ‘Blue Moon’ while wearing blue and white shorts with a Manchester City badge on them.

Martinez was a surprise to Hatton and the Spaniard moved well around the ring to avoid the youngster’s swinging punches.

The Spanish boxer was consistently able to land his uppercut on Hatton, but in the end it didn’t prove good enough to convince referee Marcus McDonnell.

One individual wrote on Twitter that it was ‘genuinely one of the biggest robberies I’ve witnessed in my life’.

Hatton himself said he was not best pleased with his display and admitted he is capable of a lot better.

“I’m not happy with my performance at all to be honest. I’m a lot better than that,” he said.

“The opponent was a lot better than anyone I’ve faced before. There’s positives and definitely negatives.

“He did a lot of flashy stuff, a lot of showboating, it’s not something any of my opponents have done before.

“I’m already a lot better than I’ve shown there, I’m not happy with that performance at all. Onto the next.”

His coach, uncle and ex-boxer Matthew added: “It was a good entertaining fight, a very good learning fight, let’s not forget it’s going to a be a process.

“I thought it was a good entertaining fight against a good opponent, Campbell shouldn’t be too harsh there.”

Meanwhile, in the main event Joshua was defeated by challenger Aleksandr Usyk by a unanimous decision.

The Ukrainian outclassed Joshua over 12 rounds and was deservedly crowned winner at the end of the night.

Joshua suffered the second defeat of his professional career after the judges’ scorecards – 117-112, 116-112, 115-113 – were all in favour of Usyk.

Speaking after the fight, Joshua said: “Well done to the winner. We’ll be back again, get back into training. It was a great 12 rounds and a great experience as well in the ring. We progress from this point on once again. We’ll be doing it all again soon.”

Joshua also posted a short message on social media which reads: “Keep positive even if the world’s crumbling in front of you! London I love you & thank you each and every time!”

The boxer is expected to take on Usyk again in a rematch after the shock loss of his heavyweight titles.
