Britney Spears’ dad ‘trying to extort her’ before stepping down as conservator

The lawyers of Britney Spears want her dad to step down from her conservatorship immediately or be suspended from the role by the courts

Britney Spears’ lawyers have claimed that her dad is trying to get around $2 million (£1.45 million) from the star before he steps down as her conservator.

Reports say that Jamie, 69, wants the money to help pay for his lawyers and her former business management, Tri-Star.

But Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart doesn’t appear ready to give in to the reported demands.

TMZ says that the 39-year-old singer points out in new legal documents that her father has already admitted it is in her best interests for him to step down as her conservator and claims he is just hanging on for more money.

Britney’s lawyer reportedly said in the document: “The status quo is no longer tolerable, and Britney Spears will not be extorted.”

Both the Toxic singer and her lawyer want Jamie to step down immediately and insist that he is suspended from the conservatorship if he doesn’t by the time the case is heard again on September 29.

The documents allegedly state that the lawyers believe “there is no basis to wait” on making the decision after the courts heard Britney’s compelling testimony in June.

In it, the star compared herself to a sex trafficking worker, while she also claimed that she had been forced to go onto contraception.

Speaking to TMZ, Britney’s lawyer added: “Britney Spears will not be bullied or extorted by her father. Nor does Mr Spears have the right to try to hold his daughter hostage by setting the terms of his removal.

“This is not about him, it is about the best interests of his daughter, which as a matter of law, mandate his removal.

“Even putting aside the legal issues requiring his prompt removal, if he loves his daughter, Mr Spears should resign now, today, before he is suspended. It would be the correct and decent thing to do.”

Since her hearing, Britney has been active on social media and has often shared cryptic posts as well as outbursts.

Britney shared praise for partner Sam Asghari

She also recently praised her long-time boyfriend Sam Asghari, 27, for sticking by her through her toughest years.

Sam has been a loyal supporter of the singer and has even donned a t-shirt with the slogan Free Britney emblazoned across it.

Britney took to Instagram last week to post a sweet snap of the pair alongside the caption: “Not only has this cute a**hole been with me through the hardest years of my life but he happens to be an extremely good cook!”

And she even went on to put her man’s name into the hat for a new acting role.

“Fast & furious franchise, don’t miss out on your next star !!!!,” she concluded.
