Billie Eilish has been confirmed as the Friday night headline act at next year’s Glastonbury Festival but she is not the only act that has been confirmed to be appearing
Glastonbury Festival is set to return in June next year after falling victim to the coronavirus pandemic, and organisers Michael and Emily Eavis are determined it will be the greatest show on earth again.
In 2020 it was meant to be Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Paul McCartney headlining the Pyramid Stage but in 2022, it has already been announced that teenage pop sensation Billie Eilish, will be topping the bill on Friday night.
Speaking to ITV in August, Michael said that he is hoping that all the “big names” who were due to perform in 2020 will be back next year.
He told the broadcaster: “We’ve got the big names coming back I think – the same bands that I think we had lined up three years ago, or hopefully, fingers crossed.
“It’s not all about the bands though, that’s the thing. It’s all the other stuff we do that makes the show work – it’s why we’re so successful I think.”
This would mean that Diana Ross will still be performing the ‘Legends’ slot on Sunday afternoon, with the chances of this being boosted by her UK tour in 2022 having Glastonbury weekend free of gigs at the moment.
Pet Shop Boys had confirmed that they would be there in 2020 and it is hoped they will be available to perform next year as well.
Among those that have ‘self-confirmed’ that they will be playing are Crowded House, with frontman Neil Finn telling Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch that the band will be available.
Aerosmith have also indicated they are Glastonbury bound by leaving their UK tour next year with a ‘festival date’ over the weekend of the Worthy Farm event.
Fatboy Slim is expected to play with him being a regular in recent years and Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift have previously indicated that they would fulfil their headline slots.
Michael also revealed the team are working on new ideas for the event.
He said: “We do it better ever year, don’t we?
“We come up with something new every year – we had the pier two years ago which was a huge success so we’ve got some new ideas we’re working on for next year as well.”
*Glastonbury Festival is scheduled to take place from June 22 – 26, 2022.
