And in Hamilton, businesses have pulled together to ensure as many positive steps as possible are taken to rebuild the economy.

That includes bringing a buzz back to communities by having services readily available and going the extra mile for residents in the town.

In August, the very successful initiative of Hamilton’s food and drink markets did just that, explains Hamilton BID manager Malcolm Thomas-Harley.

The business rep is providing a monthly column telling readers what’s happening in Hamilton; the work of many local businesses; and how we can all support the community.

The food and drink markets were a huge success in August

The Hamilton Markets brought to you by Hamilton Our Town in collaboration with the town centre businesses has now ended.

We have been delighted by the public response to the markets and thank each and every one of you that supported the town each Saturday in August.

It was great to see local businesses and performers getting involved on the days. We thank Brian Hamilton and Jenni for bringing their musical talents to the bandstand on the 28th.

Plenty of musical entertainment was on show during the markets

We also thank Letoia for the steel drumming and Stephanie and all the dancers from the Happenin Dance School who brought the street to life on a rainy Saturday afternoon!

We really hope to have provided you with a memorable and positive town centre experience showcasing the town and encouraging new customers to visit well into the future.

However, none of this would have been possible without the huge efforts of the town centre businesses that took on stalls or were involved through leafleting, tables outside their premises and more.

Locals enjoyed the entertainment throughout August

For many this has been a significant operational challenge but also demonstrates the tenacious, dynamic and forward-thinking mindset of the town centre community. Thank you.

So what’s next?

We are working on plans to re-capture the energy and buzz seen at the markets for the next initiative which will be Christmas!

I hope to bring to you an update on plans next month but until then please Shop, Eat, Play Stay, Hamilton.
