A horror collision on the M8 in the early hours has left three men dead.
The tragic incident occurred at around 5am on Sunday morning, September 19, on the busy motorway.
Police have confirmed that three men died, while a further five are in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the crash.
One man has now been arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences following the fatal smash.
Here is what happened in the incident and in the hours that followed.
M8 shut down after crash
Emergency services, including police and fire crews, raced to theM8 at around 5am on Sunday to reports of a one-vehicle collision.
The smash took place near junction 31 at West Ferry heading westbound.
The road was closed in both directions from West Ferry to the St James Interchange with a diversion in place.
While the eastbound carriageway has reopened, the westbound carriageway remains closed while police carry out accident investigation works.
Three dead after car leaves the road
Police confirmed on Sunday night that three men had tragically lost their lives in the crash and another five were in hospital.
Two men, both aged 27, and one man, aged 31, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Five other men were rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
It was also revealed that the crash happened after a blue Audi Q7 left the road.
Cops launch urgent appeal
Cops launched an urgent appeal as they carried out investigations into the fatal smash.
Anyone who was driving in the area at the time of collision or who may have dashcam footage has been asked to come forward.
Inspector Darren Cook, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are seeking assistance from the public to help with our investigation.
“Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, we believe there may be other road users that can help with our enquiry.
“I would ask if you were driving in the area around the time of the incident or have possible dashcam footage that you come forward and speak to officers.

Man arrested after fatal crash
Police announced on Sunday night an arrest had been made following the tragic M8 collision.
A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences.
