Strictly could scrap live audience after Tom Fletcher’s positive Covid test

Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly holding crisis meetings to think of potential measures to put in place to try to stop the spread of coronavirus on the show

Strictly: Rylan confirms Tom and Amy will return in week 3

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly met to discuss potential new Covid-related safety measures.

The discussion comes after celebrity dancer Tom Fletcher caught Covid despite being double jabbed.

There was heightened fear levels following the news, which also saw his professional dance partner Amy Dowden test positive, even they the pair have both been been fully vaccinated.

And it has led to the show perhaps needing to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of the celebs, dancers and staff as well as making sure the show goes on.

The news of the duo’s positive test came shortly after it was reported that three unnamed professional dancers had refused to get the jab against the virus.

It has now been suggested that bosses are considering scrapping the live studio audiences at the shows, as well as re-introducing quarantine bubbles for the dancing couples.

A source told The Sun: “These would be radical steps to take to increase safety on the set, but given the difficulties producers have had over the past two weeks, there’s nothing they aren’t willing to consider.

“But if they did have to go down this route, it would be a logistical nightmare and might leave some of the stars with a dilemma as many of them are juggling their dance training with their day jobs.”

Tom, 36, has had to pull out of the remaining shows on McFly’s current tour as well as missing week two of the dance contest as he isolates and recovers from the virus.

However, after apologising to fans, he vowed to come back to the hit BBC series stronger than ever, telling his “brilliant” dance partner and Strictly cast: “Sending you loads of love, Amy.

“I will be watching on Saturday cheering you all on guys. I can’t wait to see your week two dances. I’m so jealous that I’m not there.

“I’ll be back for week three. Amy, I’m going to dance my little Cuban heels off to hopefully get more than a four from Craig. Until then, I’m going to rest, recover and once again I’m so sorry to everyone and I’ll see you soon.”

The prospects of once again introducing bubbles into the competition would mean stars such as Katie McGlynn would have issues as they are still filming scenes in their acting roles.

Sports star Ugo Monye is appearing in the dance competition and saw his scheduled performance on A Question of Sport cancelled.

The Mirror has contacted BBC representatives for comment.
