David Beckham’s son Romeo has continued to follow in his father’s footsteps by landing his first professional contract in football.

The 19-year-old will be aiming to replicate his father’s career after joining for US side Fort Lauderdale CF.

The Florida based club currently compete in the USL League One – the third tier of US football – and are the reserve team of Inter Miami.

Romeo took to Instagram to make his announcement by updating his bio to “Footballer for @fortlauderdalecf”.

The Fort Lauderdale player also posted an image of himself in his new team colours, accompanied by the caption “Follow your dreams.”

Romeo is the second oldest of the four Beckham children and he had reportedly been training with Fort Lauderdale and Inter Miami in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old will play alongside the son of former Manchester United and Everton full-back Phil Neville.

Neville has been in charge of the Beckham-owned franchise since January, after previously managing the England women’s national team.

Romeo could be in line to make his debut this weekend against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.

However, not all of Beckham’s children have decided to keep their footballing dreams alive.

Beckham’s oldest son, Brooklyn, decided to turn his back on football in 2015 after being released by Arsenal.

Brooklyn – who was 16 at the time – played for Arsenal’s youth academy alongside his two older brothers.

However, the Gunners opted against offering the player a scholarship which would have seen him stay at the academy, after it was reported that coaches felt there other players in his position who were further along in their development.

Brooklyn’s departure came as a surprise given he had been promoted to the club’s Under-18 side a month before he was released.

Beckham’s oldest son did of course have the option to seek out opportunities at other clubs, but Brooklyn decided to call time on his footballing career.

His father went on to reveal his son’s decision in an interview with ABC in 2015 in which he opened up on the subject.

“One of my boys turned around to me the other day and said, ‘Daddy, I’m not sure I want to play football all the time,'” Beckham told ABC.

“It broke my heart a little bit. He said, ‘Every time I step on to the field, I know people are saying, This is David Beckham’s son,’ and if I am not as good as you, then it is not good enough.'”

Brooklyn ventured into other professions, before establishing himself as a photographer.

He would go on to publish his first book on the industry in June 2017, entitled “What I see”.

The 22-year-old is also reportedly interested in pursuing a career in cookery, after sharing a number of cooking tutorials on his social media platform.

Reports suggest Brooklyn could be set to host an online cookery series after he showed off his talents alongside chef Roy Choi at Bottlerock Music festival.
