The UFC is yet to host an event in France since the country legalised MMA, but Gane is hopeful he can bring the promotion to Paris with a win at UFC 270
Ciryl Gane is confident that he can convince the UFC to host their first-ever event in France if he gets past Francis Ngannou this month.
Gane – who was born in a small town in the west of France – takes on his old training partner and current heavyweight champion Ngannou in the main event of UFC 270 on January 22.
MMA was effectively banned in France six years ago after they outlawed the use of an octagon and several of the sport’s key techniques.
But in September 2019, France’s Minister of Sport- Roxana Maracineanu – announced they would lift the ban on MMA in the country and begin the process to regulate the sport.
Promotions such as Ares FC have since hosted events in France with Bellator also doing so, but the UFC is yet to visit the country.
And Gane thinks a win at UFC 270 would help him negotiate with the UFC to bring an event to his home country.
“If I win, I think I can ask the UFC and I can work for this I little bit more because I will be the champion, so I hope this is going to help me to do that,” he told Mirror Fighting .
“Of course, this is a dream of a lot of fans in my country, for this is my dream also. I want to bring the UFC to Paris and me with the main event.”
UFC president Dana White admitted he would have loved to host Ngannou vs Gane in France, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented them from doing so.
Ngannou and Gane used to train together at the MMA Factory gym in Paris, but Ngannou found a new trainer in 2018 after falling out with head coach Fernand Lopez.
Interim titleholder Gane was left puzzled when Ngannou snubbed him and former coach Lopez whilst walking past the duo backstage at UFC 268 last year.

Ngannou also ignored his former teammate Nassourdine Imavov – who had just won his fight at the event – something Gane said was “wrong”.
And with Imavov booked to fight Kelvin Gastelum next, Gane thinks it’s a possibility his teammate could fight for a title this year.
“Everything is possible with this guy, I think I have something in my eyes, I can see everything, that’s why maybe today I’m a great fighter and a fast learner,” he continued.
“I can see the potential in the people and for me Nassaourdine Iamov, this is the future and everything is possible.
“For me, he’s going to win this fight against Kelvin Gastelum, he can do another fight this summer and then at the end of this year, maybe it’s possible [he fights for the title].”
