Odds of Tim Tebow making an NFL return this year revealed

Shortly before somebody associated with Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers may or may not have leaked that he no longer wants to play for the franchise, former NFL signal-caller and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow — yes, that Tim Tebow — was in headlines when reports emerged he worked out with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end.

Tebow turns 34 years old in August and hasn’t played in an NFL regular-season game since 2012. However, he made his name performing under current Jacksonville head coach Urban Meyer at the University of Florida, and history shows he’s willing to put in the work to pursue a dream even if he fell short of taking a swing during an MLB game.

On Friday afternoon, BetOnline.ag released updated odds for Tebow’s football future, and he’s not as big of an underdog to play this fall as one may immediately think.

Will Tim Tebow sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Yes +300,
No -500

Logic suggests it’s Jacksonville or bust for Tebow. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noted on Thursday that Tebow could have a role with the Jaguars similar to that currently held by New Orleans Saints Swiss Army kKnife Taysom Hill. Who better to use Tebow that way than Meyer, and who better to serve as an inspirational mentor for rookie Trevor Lawrence?

Will Tim Tebow be on an active roster in Week 1?

Yes +275, No -450

This one is admittedly more difficult, as Tebow putting pen to paper on a deal that includes zero guaranteed money this summer is not the same as the veteran watching the action from the Jacksonville sideline when Lawrence takes the season’s first snap in September. How would Tebow’s body survive a training camp and preseason action? Does he have anything left in the tank? Are you willing to risk money betting on him regarding either of those questions?

Will Tim Tebow catch a pass in Week 1?

Yes +300, No -500

If you bet “Yes” for the first two, you have little reason to avoid going all-in here. Remember that a one-yard pass that essentially turns Tebow into a temporary running back would be enough for you to cash in here.

For what it’s worth, Meyer wasn’t the first person to consider Tebow as an NFL tight end:
