Ms. Marvel on Disney+: Everything you need to know

Ms. Marvel is a relatively recent addition to the Marvel comics, but she’s been such a huge success that it should come as no surprise that she’s making her way to the MCU in her own Disney+ series soon.

It doesn’t hurt that she was the breakout star of 2020’s Marvel’s Avengers game, and between that and a planned appearance in Captain Marvel 2, it looks like Kamala Khan is about to become a household name.

The Ms. Marvel show will join the likes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, contributing significantly to the overall narrative of phase 4 of the MCU. If you’d like to know more about Ms. Marvel – including the plot, casting and release date – then keep on reading.

When does Ms. Marvel start?

Whilst Disney hasn’t confirmed an exact date for the release of Ms. Marvel, it was originally set to arrived in late 2021. However, according to rumours from CBR, it won’t arrive until February 2022.

With Hawkeye now set to debut on 24 November, this date makes more sense, as the archery extravaganza is likely to end on 29 December with just six episodes in total.

Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye will be followed by Moon Knight and She-Hulk, and at some point Loki season 2.

Watch the trailer

OK, so it’s not technically a proper trailer, but this official sizzle reel actually features loads of proper footage from the series cut into behind-the-scenes action and interviews, even if it doesn’t quite give us a full look at Kamala in costume.

That said, there are some leaked photos from the set that show off Ms. Marvel in her full costume (of course, not officially released by Disney):

We may get some more teasers and news for Ms. Marvel on Disney+ Day, which is on 12 November 2021.

Who are the cast and crew of Ms. Marvel?

The star of the show is Iman Vellani, a Canadian actress who will be making her onscreen debut as Ms. Marvel herself.

She’ll be joined by Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Kamala’s friend who is in on the secret of her superpowers. Also confirmed is Aramis Knight as the vigilante Kareem, AKA Red Dagger.

Kamala’s family will be played by Saagar Shaikh (playing Amir Khan, Kamala’s brother), Zenobia Shroff (playing Muneeba Khan, Kamala’s mother) and Mohan Kapur (playing Yusuf Khan, Kamala’s father).

Laurel Marsden will star as Zoe Zimmer, whilst Rish Shah will play the role of Kamran.

Behind the camera, Bisha K. Ali will act as head writer. Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Meno will all serves as directors across season one.

What is the plot of Ms. Marvel?

We assume that Ms. Marvel’s first season will be an origin story. Kamala Khan is a nerdy Pakistani-American teenager, and the first Muslim superhero in the Marvel universe. Based in Jersey City, she gains her powers as a polymorph by coming into contact with Terrigen Mist.

Kamala can change her appearance to whatever she wills but needs time to recharge after using her powers. Her enemies vary from massive big bads to more street-level crime, but we suspect that the series may lead towards the latter.

That’s because we think the series will want to give Kamala room to step up when she makes her confirmed appearance in The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel. She’ll star alongside Brie Larson (playing Carol Danvers) and WandaVision’s Teyonah Parris (playing Monica Rambeau). The family of Kamala will also star in this film.

This isn’t the only Disney+ series to plant the seeds to direct tie-ins with movies – WandaVision has already done so with the sequel to Doctor Strange.
