EastEnders villainess Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks, returns to Albert Square next week and swiftly finds herself in conflict with Kat Slater

Eastenders: Brand new trailer sees return of Janine

Janine Butcher finally returns to Albert Square on EastEnders next week.

Actress Charlie Brooks makes her big comeback to the BBC One soap after seven years since her last appearance.

Now we know the reason we are seeing the iconic character again and it is to reunite with her daughter Scarlett Butcher – who fans saw make a surprise return last week.

Scarlett has been in foster care and made contact with her ‘cousin’ Tommy Moon online with neither appearing to realise they are half-siblings by their dead biological father Michael Moon.

Despite Tommy’s pleas, his mum Kat Slater did not take Scarlett in and returned her to foster care.

Next week, Martin Fowler tells Kat about how upset Tommy is about the situation with Scarlett.

As a result, Kat decides to come clean with Tommy and tells him that Alfie isn’t his father and that Michael was.

The confession leaves Tommy even more determined to live with his half-sister.

Later, Kat visits the courthouse for a hearing about Scarlett’s future and offers herself to a social worker as a carer for Scarlett, stating that the girl shouldn’t have contact with her mother Janine again.

Kat decides to be honest with Scarlett about her relation to Tommy when she is shocked to see Janine rock up at the hearing.

During the hearing, Janine gives emotional testimony about how she has changed over the years and wants to be there for Scarlett.

Later, Janine turns up at Queen Vic and body delivers put-downs to the locals, leaving Kat determined to keep Scarlett away from her mother.

Meanwhile, Kat’s boyfriend and Janine’s former step-brother Phil is not keen on getting involved in Scarlett’s case, while his cousin Billy Mitchell defends his old friend Janine, which irritates Kat.

Kat soon finds herself approached by Janine who begs her for a second chance.

However, both are left in a tizzy later in the week as young Scarlett goes missing.
