Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the spotlight today to visit the 9/11 Memorial memorial in New York City and a top body language expert has suggested they were both “feeling the pressure.

The pair headed to the Big Apple for their first public outing together since taking parental leave following the birth of the birth of their daughter Lilibet in June.

They visited the observatory at One World Trade Center as well the memorial pools and museum at the site of the 2001 terrorist atrocity.

Harry and Meghan were joined by officials including New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio.

It was their first public outing together since it was revealed Harry’s plans to write a tell-all book about his former life in the royal family, and body language expert Judi James suggests he was looking “anxious”.

She also says secret signals between the pair showed they were both feeling the “pressure” of the appearance.

Judi tells The Mirror: “The couple’s arrival looked suitable somber to match the somber venue but there were also some signs that the baby-break had created some added pressure for this first time in the spotlight again for the US power-couple.

“Harry looked especially anxious, touching his wife’s back as she walked into the venue in a small steering gesture but then performing several checking touches of his jacket and clothing to hint at some inner nerves.

“Meghan walked ahead and she walked quickly, although their brief low-held wave and smile to the crowd was more reminiscent of their signature look.”

Judi goes on to explain the pair seemed to be putting on a very professional front and were less affectionate with each other than usual – possibly due to the somber tone of the visit.

However, she suggests Meghan was also displaying signals that she might have felt slightly uncomfortable.

Judi adds: “There was little in the way of PDAs from the couple here, who might have felt the occasion deserved a more professional look.

Harry placed an arm around his wife’s back as they posed for photos inside the venue but their smiles were ‘Lightning’ smiles, performed quickly and rather rigidly for the camera before disappearing quickly again.

Harry appeared to eye-check Meghan a couple of times and to chat to her but as they posed but her lack of response or returned gaze suggested she might also have been feeling under pressure at this very high-profile return to public life.”

The former royals were seen inspecting the names of the victims inscribed around the North Tower memorial pool before being shown around the South Tower memorial pool by the museum’s president Alice Greenwald.

They went on to spend around half an hour in the museum before leaving the site.

It’s believed to be Meghan’s first trip back to the Big Apple since she hosted her star-studded baby shower there back in 2019.

The former actress was pregnant with her first child, son Archie, when she gathered her famous friends for a lavish bash at a swanky hotel in Manhattan.

The couple now live in California and their two children are believed to have remained on the West Coast during the pair’s trip to New York.
