Man Utd make James transfer decision as Ronaldo agrees huge pay cut

Manchester United have agreed a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to Old Trafford and there is still time for more business before the transfer deadline

Manchester United confirm Cristiano Ronaldo return

Manchester United fans are still coming to terms with a rollercoaster Friday where emotions soon turned from despair to elation.

Cristiano Ronaldo was destined for a switch from Juventus to United’s rivals Manchester City, but later agreed on a return to Old Trafford 12 years after leaving as the world’s best player.

The Portuguese icon follows Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane as genuine quality additions to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

But Ronaldo’s arrival also puts the future of several players in doubt with Solskjaer now having a surplus of attackers in his large squad.

There could still be some movement in the final hours of the transfer window for the Red Devils.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest transfer gossip surrounding Old Trafford…

Ronaldo’s sensational transfer to United has reportedly cleared the way for Daniel James to leave the club.

James already had huge competition for minutes after the arrival of Sancho, with Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial also occupants of his preferred wide role.

The Sun claim United will let James leave before Tuesday’s deadline, with Everton, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leeds among the interested clubs.

It is added a loan move will be sanctioned for the Welsh winger, but he could even be sold permanently if the price is right.

Ronaldo will become the highest paid player at United, despite taking a significant pay cut to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will pay the five-time Ballon d’Or winner £6m less per year than he was earning at Juventus, the Mail on Sunday claim.

It is claimed Ronaldo was on a staggering £500,000-per-week during his time in Turin, which equates to £26m a year salary.

But he will now earn £385,000 per-week at Old Trafford, which still makes him the highest earning United star ahead of David de Gea.

United are still waiting to officially confirm Ronaldo’s transfer after announcing an initial agreement, and the 36-year-old could be ready to make his second debut for the club at home to Newcastle on September 11.

Lingard set to stay

Jesse Lingard is reportedly back on West Ham’s radar

West Ham are set to end their interest in signing Jesse Lingard from United this summer, reports suggest.

The Hammers have been strongly linked with a permanent move for the midfielder after a superb short loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

But according to the Guardian, the club are now closing in on a move for CSKA Moscow’s Nikola Vlasic, who will bolster their attacking options.

The move for Vlasic comes after West Ham were put off by United’s £25m asking price for Lingard, and it is suggested that the 28-year-old will instead remain at Old Trafford.
