The appointment of Ralf Rangnick as Manchester United manager is sure to cause major changes at Old Trafford, and the January transfer window could be a busy time for the German boss
Manchester United have announced the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager on a six-month contract, and the German could shake up his squad in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this month after a string of humiliating results.
Expectations for this season were high with Solskjaer after the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, and Rangnick will be hoping he can work his magic with the incredibly talented squad.
But the former RB Leipzig may not be entirely confident in his options and may look to the January transfer window to rescue United’s hopes of securing Champions League football.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest United transfer news…
Rangnick wants to reunite with Leipzig star
According to FourFourTwo, Rangnick is considering reuniting with Amadou Haidara at Old Trafford.
The Malian midfielder was signed by the interim manager whilst he was at Leipzig and is thought to be capable of breathing a new lease of life into the United midfield.
Questions are, understandably, being raised about whether Paul Pogba will commit his future to United as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
At 23, Haidara would be a long-term investment for United, but the Red Devils may have to go head-to-head with Newcastle to secure his signature as the Magpies have been linked with the former RB Salzburg man recently.
United may have found Wan-Bissaka replacement
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has failed to meet the expectations that his £50million price tag provided in 2019.
The English defender hit the ground running when he arrived at the Amex last season, being a presence in both boxes and showing that Chelsea made a mistake in letting him depart.
Rangnick is famed for his high-pressing fullbacks, and Lamptey could be a ready-made fit to slot into his system.
Pochettino already knows his summer transfer targets
In six months’ time, attention at the Red Devils will be on both summer signings and also their managerial vacancy.
Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, Ajax’ Erik ten Hag and PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino have all been linked with the opening, with the latter reportedly the no.1 target.
And the former Spurs boss has already made it clear to United who he would like to sign in the summer, according to La RaZon.
Pochettino has reportedly told the club that if he opts to depart Le Parc des Princes for the Theatre of Dreams then he wants them to sign Kieran Trippier and Jules Kounde.
Trippier was linked with a move to United over the summer but the Red Devils weren’t willing to match Atletico’s £35million asking price, though he may be available for less now as he is one year older and his contract expiry is not too far away (2023).
Kounde was also linked with a move to the Premier League, but Chelsea was his likeliest destination.
The Blues, as well, were unwilling to strike up a deal with Sevilla due to the Frenchman’s high price tag, instead of turning to academy product Trevoh Chalobah this season instead.
