Sadio Mane suggests Naby Keita’s Liverpool celebration had Man Utd influence

The Senegal international bagged his 100th Liverpool goal during Saturday’s clash against Crystal Palace, but chose to point out the celebration of team-mate Naby Keita after the game

Having only recently returned from a dramatic international break, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita notched a stunning goal to cap off a stellar team display against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Guinean international was back in his home country at the time of a military coup, but thankfully returned home safely and made an immediate impact after he was introduced off the bench against the Eagles just after the hour mark.

Keita bagged Liverpool’s third late on with a stunning volley beyond the despairing dive of Palace ‘keeper Vincente Guaita and while the goal was special – it is his celebration that has got teammate Sadio Mane talking.

Sadio Mane compared teammate Naby Keita to Man Utd legend Eric Cantona

The Senegalese international took to Instagram to jokingly compare Keita’s goal celebration to that of Manchester United legend Eric Cantona and his arrogant yet iconic display after he scored his famous chip against Sunderland.

Mane uploaded a split image of Keita and Cantona’s celebrations – the similarity hard to ignore, as his snap was accompanied with the two word caption – “Cantona lad”.

Injuries have often blighted Keita’s Liverpool career, the former RB Leipzig midfielder failing to recapture the kind of form that prompted the Reds to part ways with £48m to secure his signature in 2018.

He has often displayed his talent in glimpses, his goal against Patrick Vieira’s side on Saturday not the first time he has found the net in spectacular fashion – his thunderous strike against Chelsea lives long in the memory of the Liverpool faithful.

It was a solid afternoon’s work for Mane himself, the former Southampton man notching his 100th goal in a Liverpool shirt to open the scoring.

The goal also broke a new Premier League record – Mane bagging against Palace for the ninth successive game, surpassing the previous record held by Robin van Persie against Stoke City.

The forward was in high sprits after the game, joking to BBC Sport : “I would love to play against Crystal Palace. I am lucky. It would be great to play them every single weekend.

“In my head I am always thinking it is possible. I will keep trying and trying and trying.

“I am lucky to score so many goals against Palace. Most important thing was the three points. Right place, right time. I am lucky. And happy. Thank you to all the fans, club and staff. Without them I am nothing.”
