Sara Pascoe named new host of Great British Sewing Bee as Joe Lycett steps down

Joe Lycett has confirmed that he’s stepping down from presenting the Great British Sewing Bee for the upcoming series

Sara Pascoe is set to take over hosting duties of the Great British Sewing Bee it has been announced.

The 40-year-old comedian will replace the out-going Joe Lycett as the new host and will join judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant for the next instalment of the hit BBC series.

Joe replaced Claudia Winkleman as the show’s host in 2019 when it returned from a three-year hiatus.

The competition sees 12 of Britain’s best amateur sewers take on various creative challenges and every episode takes on a different theme involving three separate tasks.

The tasks include the pattern challenge and a transformation challenge in which the contestants must up-cycle second-hand garments and create a brand new outfit,.

The third is a final sewing challenge, which tests the contestants’ tasked with creating a made-to-measure outfit for a real-life model.

Joe took to Twitter to break the news he was leaving. He wrote: “A bit of news: I loved my journey on @sewingbee but I’ve decided it is time for me to go.

“My friend the great @sarapascoe will be the new host and I know she will be fantastic. Big love to all the brilliant team, and go Sara!”

Sara revealed she is “beyond excited and very very happy!” to take over the role and said he style is like that of “a nine-year-old with a debit card”.

The official Sewing Bee Twitter account wrote: “We’re bursting at the seams with joy that @sarapascoe will be joining Sewing Bee as our new host. Welcome to the family, Sara! #SewingBee.”

The announcement was met by mixed views by followers on the social media platform.

One excited fan said: “This is great, one of the only replacements I’d have been equally happy with!! Sara’s brilliant.”

Another seemed to sit on the fence as they wrote: “I suppose this is because @joelycett is on tour and unable to join the Covid bubble. @sarapascoe am sure will be brilliant BUT Joe had a certain something (pixie dust) that brought the sparkle and sunshine to Sewing Bee. Just be yourself Sara and all will be good.”

And another was far from happy as they commented: “Nope, not happy, there is only one presenter and that’s Joe. Sick of all these “new” comedians moving from the usual meh panel shows into presenting – I love this show but not sure I’ll be watching now.”
