The stars who swerved TOWIE producers’ brutal cull got down to work as filming for the latest series gets underway.

Amy Childs, sisters Demi and Chloe Sims and Pete Wicks were back on set as thing ramp up for the reality favourite’s long-awaited return.

Amy, 31, put on a busty display as she arrived, with Pete’s trademark long hair flowing in the wind as he kept warm in a khaki hoodie.

Saffron Lempriere looked typically stylish in a navy blue shirt and skinny jeans.

Chloe looked stunning in her military-style cropped jacket, and wore black from head to toe.

All appear to have dodged the axe, but the execs’ big decision hasn’t pleased many.

The 11-episode 29th series is due to hit our screens later this year – but there’s already been controversy.

The ITVBe programme, which has been on air since 2010, confirmed plans to focus on a smaller group of cast members.

It aims to ‘show more of their personal passions and professions’.

That means ten have lost their roles – and it hasn’t gone down well, according to reports.

It has been claimed the cull left the large cast ‘distraught’ – after they were ‘sold a dream’ by TV bosses.

A source told MailOnline : “It has been a challenging two years for most people financially, this was their career and TOWIE effectively sacked a bunch of youngsters from their jobs and for what reason?

“There was no problem with anyone on the show, they could have given them another six months or the chance to look for other opportunities, but to just fire them all overnight was irresponsible.

“The cast believed they were meeting producers for a catch-up ahead of filming resuming in August, so everyone was ready and excited with their updates – but without warning they were booted off the show.”

Fans still don’t know the full cast, despite filming already being underway.

In a summer statement released on the programme’s official social media pages, the show wrote: “After more than 10 fabulous years following the lives of our ever-growing cast, TOWIE will be evolving with some changes.

“As it looks ahead to future series, the next instalment of our BAFTA award winning show returns to Essex to follow a smaller group of cast members.”

“This change allows our cast more time to film their real lives, showing more of their personal passions and professions, alongside their strong bonds and dynamics with family and friends,” the team continued.

“Those who won’t appear regularly on screen next series will always be part of the TOWIE family and we wholeheartedly thank them for sharing their lives with us in recent years.

“As always, their wellbeing is of paramount importance to us and we will continue to offer welfare support if needed to all past and present TOWIE cast,” they concluded. “We ask and urge all our viewers to think before commenting below, and remember that #ThesePeopleAreAllReal.

“Thank you to our audience for your continued support. [TOWIE] will be back soon for it’s 29th series on [ITVBe], stay tuned for further announcement.”
