Actress Mindy Kaling took to Instagram to share the first image of her one-year-old son Spencer as famous faces flock to wish the tot a happy birthday
Mindy Kaling has posted the very first photo of her little boy as she celebrates him turning one.
The US Office star has kept the youngster, born on September 3, 2020, out of the public eye, but took to Instagram on Monday to share the sweet snap.
The actress and producer,42, posted an image showing son Spencer sitting in front of an influx of balloons, including a huge Mickey Mouse head.
She also used the post to shed some light on the baby boy’s bond with his older sister, Katherine, three.
She captioned the image: “Friday was my son Spencer’s first birthday. My daughter Kit is pretty cautious with new people. Not this guy.
“If you happen to make eye contact with Spencer, he lights up like you are old war buddies and he makes a beeline to you.”
The actress, who also starred in The Mindy Project, went on to discuss how things were welcoming the newest member of the family during lockdown.
She added: “I had Spencer during Covid and it was a strange isolated time, but the instant I saw him I knew he would make everything better. And he did!”
Mindy ended her post by giving fans an insight into home life as she revealed her baby’s nickname. “Happy birthday, Spike!,” she concluded.
Famous friends of the star flocked to the post to pass on their own well wishes.
Queer Eye star Tan France penned: “OMG, your baby is 1 already? Where did the time go?!”
Stylist Jessica Mulroney commented: “Happy birthday to my favorite family. You are an incredible mom.”
And chef Maunika Gowardhan wrote: “Happy happy birthday Spencer! Hope you had the best day with lots of cake, pressies & bundles of hug.”
While the snap didn’t show the child’s face, it’s a step closer to the public than Mindy has done previously.

She managed to keep her entire pregnancy out of the public eye and only announced Spencer’s arrival a month after she had given birth.
She has also steered clear of posting pics of her three-year-old daughter too and explained why in an interview with Glamour in 2019.
She said at the time: “I’m on social media and like sharing with people what my interests are and how my day’s going and all of that, but I do feel entitled to have privacy about my daughter and my relationships.
“It’s really essential to my life that there be something not everybody knows about. That’s a boundary, but it’s a very small boundary. Everything else I really don’t have any issue sharing.”
