Santa Claus at West Midlands Safari Park
If you are full of festive spirit, this could be the job for you. West Midlands Safari Park, near Kidderminster, is looking for someone to play Santa in its grotto until Christmas Eve.
The position is supported by a team of Elf helpers and will involve interacting with children, “asking them what is on their wish list, telling stories about the North Pole and your enchanting reindeer, and even singing the odd Christmas carol”.
A West Midlands Safari Park spokesperson described the role, saying the ideal candidate must remain in character at all times, adding: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we are recruiting for the jolliest role of all, Santa Claus.
“Christmas is a magical time, and you will be stepping into the famous red suit working in Santa’s Grotto, meeting and greeting families with a cheery Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas!”
The role is for up to 37.5 hours a week including early evenings, bank holidays and weekends. The salary will depend on age with over 25s getting £9.66 an hour or £9.11 if aged 21 to 24, £7.31 aged 18-20 and £5.37 aged 16-17.
Benefits of the job include free tickets to West Midlands Safari Park for you and your family but applications must be submitted through the Park’s website by September 25.

Webbs Garden Centre has a range of temporary festive roles but the most exciting are playing adorable elves.
The company needs elves for its popular traditional Christmas grottos at its Hagley and Cheltenham venues to welcome families and check tickets from early November until Christmas Eve.
Recruiters are looking for people who are “great with children, positive and outgoing with a smiley disposition, who love all things Christmas and enjoying spreading lots of festive cheer to guests”.
Fixed term, part-time positions are available.
Santa at Webbs Garden Centres in Hagley and Cheltenham
The grottos at Hagley and Cheltenham will also need a Santa Claus to let children know if they have been naughty or nice.
Webbs said it is looking for “authentic Santa lookalikes with twinkly eyes, a love of children and all things Christmas”. Successful candidates are those who can think on their feet as well as stay in character throughout, said Webbs.
Previous experience as Santa is said to be “advantageous but not essential” for various shifts that are normally four hours but eight hours are available on request, in November and December.

Owners Merlin are hiring Father Christmas for the grotto at the Brindleyplace attraction. The role is from November 1 to December 24 and there are both part-time and full-time shifts available.
Pay is an hourly rate of £10.50 along with benefits including a 25% discount in Merlin retail shops and restaurants and a 40% discount online off LEGO.
Festive workers across Waitrose and John Lewis
John Lewis is hiring temporary Christmas staff across its Waitrose supermarkets, department store in Solihull and warehouses.
A huge recruitment drive is taking place and will need workers across the board from drivers to warehouse and retail staff as shoppers rush to buy gifts, Christmas food plus cards and wrapping paper from the brand, famous for its Christmas adverts.
Waitrose stores span from Bromsgrove and Droitwich to Solihull, Harborne, Hall Green and Stourbridge, while there is a huge Midlands distribution centre in Leicestershire. Temporary workers will even be offered free food and drink as an employee.
Elves for The Enchanted Gardens light trail off M5 near Bromsgrove
Webbs at Wychbold is this year launching a new seasonal event of a fairy tale light trail called The Enchanted Gardens and need a team of elves to help Santa in his workshop.
These special elves will be part of festive photos from early November until Christmas Eve and want to spread festive cheer and “love all things Christmas” amid the twinkling lights and stunning grounds at the venue.
These are fixed term positions with various part time shifts available in a fun and friendly working environment. Benefits include a staff discount at the award-winning garden centre while you are working at the site.
Seasonal mail sorters for Royal Mail in Wolverhampton
Royal Mail need extra help as Christmas is its busiest time of year for both parcels and Christmas cards.
Its warehouse in Wolverhampton is hiring temporary flexible workers from all walks of life to help them “get everything where it needs to go”. Applicants need to be able to push trolleys of up to 250kgs and lift and move mail bags that can weigh up to 11kg.
Sorters do various tasks from unloading mail and parcels from vans to moving them through the warehouses. Royal Mail said: “During a single shift, you could sort over a million items with your team. It’s a very important role so flexibility, commitment and enthusiasm are key.”
The pay is £11.40 an hour for day shifts and £13.70 per hour for nights. Shift patterns available are:
- Early: Tuesday to Saturday, 06:30-10:30
- Late: Monday to Friday, 17:00-22:00
- Night: Monday to Friday, 23:00-06:30
- Weekend: Saturday and Sunday, 18:00-06:00 or Saturday Only, 06:00 – 18:00
Elves at Bridgnorth Garden Centre
Santa’s Elves are being hired for four-week contracts for the Grotto Experience at Bridgnorth Garden Centre in Bridgnorth.
So that it is a magical experience for children, the garden centre said it is essential that applicants are of a cheery disposition and great at entertaining groups of children.
They are seeking people with superb customer service skills who can be responsible for handling money and acting or entertainment skills would be advantageous
Weekday and weekend positions are available and part-time hours are available for between eight and 20 hours a week. The deadline to apply is September 27.
