‘A beautiful soul’ – Tributes to devoted father-of-four killed in hit-and-run

Tributes have been pouring in for a devoted father-of-four killed in a hit-and-run collision.

Ghulam Nabi, 61, from Alum Rock, was fatally injured when he was struck by a car near the junction of Fazeley Street and Heath Mill Lane, in Digbeth, at around 11am, on Sunday, August 29.

West Midlands Police appealed for information and released CCTV of a man they want to quiz in connection with the tragedy.

Scores of BirminghamLive readers have been leaving their tributes for bus driver Ghulam, who was also known as “Ban.”

Ch Sageer wrote on Facebook: “What a beautiful soul” and another said the death was “devastating.”

Lee Dodds said: “Lovely man, we used to have a right laugh at lea hall on the 97. RIP ban.”

David Albutt wrote: “Worked with him for 26 years, always smiling, always there for a chat, one of the best ! R.I.P mate, gone but never forgotten.”

Ann Grimmittriddell put: “One of the nicest men you could ask to meet. My hubby worked with him 26 years shocked to hear it Ban as we knew him. So very sorry for your loss our hearts go out to all your family R.i.p.”

Another tribute from Natalie Chiswell added: “Devastating and so tragic for this gentleman’s family. I do hope the offenders are caught and justice is duly served. My sincere condolences.”

Annette Reid Taylor added: “Devastating news, lovely bloke, my heart goes out to the family, as fellow nx drivers totally shocked by this. Rip.”

And Mohammed Qais wrote: “Such a great man, like a father figure to me, it’s been an honour to have worked with you…. you’ll never be forgotten uncle.”
