Aston Villa injury news after win over Man United

Aston Villa fans are still basking in their side’s superb 1-0 win at Manchester United, secured by Kortney Hause’s late header.

But thoughts in the Villa camp will soon turn to next Sunday’s trip to Tottenham, who suffered a chastening 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby.

Villa will be without Leon Bailey (quad) after the £30 million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen picked up an injury against Everton.

Morgan Sanson added to Smith’s injury woes when he came off against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup game on Wednesday with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Trezeguet (knee) and Keinan Davis remain out.

But Axel Tuanzebe will be available again after not being allowed to play against his parent club due to Premier League regulations.

Here’s the latest injury news from Bodymoor Heath…

Leon Bailey

Injury: Quad.

Target return date: Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 16.

What we know: Bailey picked up the injury in the 3-0 win over Everton last weekend.

What Smith said: “Leon has a strain which is likely to keep him out until after the international break. We would be hopeful that he would be available for the Wolves game but we will need to assess him nearer the time and see how he progresses over the next ten days or so.”

Morgan Sanson

Injury: Hamstring.

Target return date: Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 16.

What we know: Sanson was substituted shortly before half-time in the Chelsea game on Wednesday.

What Smith said: “We don’t believe it’s going to be a bad one, he actually carried on for two or three minutes after, which proves to me it’s not a bad one. He was building up his game minutes, so really frustrated for him but it will only be a small step backwards, that’s for sure.”

Injury: Knee.

Target return date: No return date yet pencilled in but still faces a few more months on the sidelines.

What we know: Villa will be expecting Trezeguet back at some point this season after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury involving ligament damage in April. He has been training on the grass at Bodymoor.

What Smith said: “He’s had a significant knee injury which is normally nine months. We never like to put a time frame on injuries, but that’s the average time to come back. Some come back earlier, some come back later.”

Keinan Davis

Injury: Unspecified.

Target return date: Reports claim he could be out until the start of October.

What we know:Davis picked up the injury in pre-season, reportedly scuppering a loan move to Stoke City, but is out of a brace.
