Aston Villa are back in action this afternoon when they entertain Leicester City at Villa Park (4.30pm).
Manager Steven Gerrard was close to having a fully-fit squad at his disposal with only a couple of long-term injury worries to contend with before the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in midweek.
Morgan Sanson has returned from a hamstring problem in recent weeks while Douglas Luiz is also back in the fold.
However Trezeguet remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from an operation on a serious knee injury sustained in April while Bertrand Traore is still out with a thigh injury that has kept him out since the beginning of October.
Danny Ings is out with a hamstring problem and could miss the Leicester game if Villa feel it is necessary to hold him back for another game.
Leon Bailey, whose season is yet to get going, is set for an MRI scan on a thigh injury having been withdrawn from the Man City game after only half-an-hour.
Here’s the latest Villa injury news ahead of the Leicester game…
Target return date: Unknown for now. Expect an update from Gerrard’s press conference on Friday.
What we know: Bailey was visibly upset when he was substituted from the Man City game on Wednesday.
What Gerrard said: “He will need an MRI scan and we will have to find out what the damage is. It looks like he will miss at least a couple of games. He was starting to look a real threat in training!”
Injury: Believed to be a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
Target return date: While not believed to be serious, hamstring problems are ones you do have to manage so Ings could conceivably miss the next couple of games.
What we know: The striker missed a return to Southampton earlier this month but featured in Gerrard’s first game against Brighton, playing over an hour. He was an unused sub at Palace.
What Gerrard said: “Danny, unfortunately, won’t make Man City. We were protecting him at the weekend. He’s had a little bit of a setback – a previous injury – nothing major, but we had to put the brakes on for a few days at the least.”
“So there’ll be one change in the squad – Keinan Davis will replace Danny Ings, the rest is as it was the last time.”
Target return date: TBD.
What we know: A thigh injury has seen Traore miss all action since the beginning of October, almost two months ago, and it’s likely that – depending on how he’s looking for the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year – he could make his return over the Christmas schedule.
What Gerrard said: “Traore is progressing really well, but he won’t return to training until probably just before Christmas.”
Target return date: TBD.
What we know: Villa are expecting Trezeguet back at some point this season after he underwent surgery on a serious knee injury in April at Liverpool. He’s come through sessions of full training and an outing in the Premier League 2 competition has been pencilled in.
What Gerrard said: “We’re looking for Trezeguet to get his first minutes in terms of game time for the Under-23s as early as possible.”
