Villa receive triple boost for Chelsea

Smith has been boosted on two fronts ahead of his side’s game against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Villa return to action after a 3-0 defeat of Everton last time out with a Carabao Cup trip to Stamford Bridge a little over a week from their last visit to Thomas Tuchel’s side.

That game also ended in favour of the hosts, 3-0, with Romleu Lukaku (2) and Mateo Kovacic on the scoresheet for the Blues.

Both of those players are expected to sit out the cup clash as Tuchel rotates his side.

Solomon speaks out on transfer talk

Reported Villa transfer target Manor Solomon has spoken about his plans for the future.

The Shakhtar Donetsk winger has been linked with a move to Villa and his agent, Shlomi Ben Ezra, spoke to Israeli publication Sport5 confirming that the player could be on the move soon.

Villa have been name-checked as a potential destination for Solomon, with Smith’s side and their Premier League rivals Arsenal also credited with an interest in the player as well as Italian side Atalanta.

Solomon was identified by Villa as a transfer target last year before moving to sign Bertrand Traore from Olympique Lyon.

Tottenham told to make Winks call

Tottenham Hotspur have been told to consider sanctioning a move away for Harry Winks.

Winks was linked with a move to Villa in the summer as Smith’s side looked to strengthen their midfield.

In the end Villa concluded the transfer window without signing a new central midfielder but with the emergence of Carney Chukwuemeka and the form of Jacob Ramsey that looks like a shrewd move.

Winks is on the fringes at Spurs and played an hour of the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace ten days ago and was benched for the home loss to Chelsea by the same scoreline on Sunday.

Man Utd set for injury boost ahead of Villa

Alex Telles is set to give Manchester United a fitness boost before the game against Villa on Saturday.

Brazilian left-back Telles hasn’t featured for United this season after suffering an ankle injury in a pre-season fixture with Derby County in July.

After two months on the sidelines he could return to action in United’s Carabao Cup tie with West Ham United on Wednesday.

“I feel good. Things happen in football,” Telles told United’s in-house media. “I wasn’t very happy about that (the injury) but I took advantage of the situation by working harder.
