Gerrard shuts down Liverpool question as Villa get transfer demand

It’s three wins from four for Steven Gerrard as Aston Villa boss after a 2-1 defeat of Leicester City on Sunday.

Ezri Konsa’s double put Villa on the right track to victory and got Gerrard‘s men back to winning ways after a battling reverse to Manchester City in midweek.

It stands them in good stead for a trip to Anfield on Saturday with Villa taking on last year’s Premier League champions Liverpool on Merseyside.

Here are the top headlines from Villa Park on Monday, December 6 2021…

Gerrard shuts down Liverpool question

Villa boss Gerrard was asked the inevitable question after his side’s 2-1 defeat of Leicester.

Villa had just beaten City thanks to a brace from Konsa to record their third win from four matches since Gerrard took over from Dean Smith last month.

Gerrard has overseen a revival at Villa, who are now in tenth place having lost five consecutive games which prompted the club’s hierarchy to move for the Liverpool legend after sacking Smith.

Up next for Villa is a trip to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Villa fans eye transfers ahead of January

Gerrard is turning Villa’s season around with three wins in his four games in charge.

Since taking over from Smith in November Gerrard has seen his side beat Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and now Leicester.

Villa have only lost to Manchester City on Gerrard’s watch and look a world away from the team that suffered five straight defeats before Smith was given the sack last month.

Now Villa are looking up the Premier League table instead of down at a potential relegation battle.

Liverpool fans all say the same thing about Gerrard & Villa

Liverpool fans have been giving their reaction to Villa’s performance against Leicester on social media with a trip to Anfield and an emotional return awaiting Gerrard next weekend.

“Gerrard’s Villa team will be hard to crack next week, especially with some added motivation for him personally,” one fan said on social media.

“Villa might be a thorn in our side next week,” another added while a third supporter said: “Gerrard is really building Villa.”

Another added: “Villa are playing well,” while a fifth fan said: “Congratulations to Stevie G and Aston Villa but that’s not really a good thing for us.”

Bizarre reason Ramsey’s goal was disallowed

Jacob Ramsey thought he had put Villa ahead during his side’s game against Leicester only for the goal to be disallowed.

Ramsey pounced on a loose ball to fire home after Kasper Schmeichel had attempted to gather from Matty Cash‘s header.

Schmeichel, replays showed, had a hand on the ball with Ramsey firing into Leicester’s net and referee Michael Oliver consulted the video assistant referee monitor to disallow the goal.

Ramsey was adjudged to have committed a foul on Schmeichel but according to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game, Oliver was correct to disallow the goal.
