Gerrard takes Villa action as feelings made clear on Grealish return

Gerrard takes action at Villa with key changes

Steven Gerrard got off to a perfect start as the new Aston Villa head coach as Brighton were defeated 2-0 at Villa Park on Saturday.

Second half goals from Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings put Villa in control late on to end a five-match losing streak which had resulted in the sacking of Dean Smith before the start of the November international break.

The Liverpool legend was clenching fists, kicking every ball and demanding every last drop of commitment from his players as he navigated his new dugout at the weekend. He’s a man on a mission to feel the same highs he felt as a player through management and has his feet firmly under the table at Bodymoor Heath.

BirminghamLive takes a look at what the new Villa boss has already changed during his first 10 days in charge..

Lingard latest

Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard still wants to quit Old Trafford even though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left the club.

According to the Daily Mail, the highly-rated attacker’s position on his future at United remains unchanged after contract talks broke down.

While other United players are delaying decisions over their futures, the Mail says that Lingard remains adamant about leaving with Solskjaer’s departure on Sunday making no difference to his circumstances.

Villa have been strongly linked with Lingard although West Ham appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Lingard set tongues wagging when he posted a picture of him wearing a Hammers shirt on his Instagram stories last week.

West Ham boss David Moyes was asked about his interest in Lingard last week but refused to go into detail about a reunion after he starred for his side during a loan spell at the London Stadium last term.
