Simon Jordan and Christian Purslow clash over finances
Simon Jordan and Christian Purslow were involved in a heated debate about finances in English football in the wake of a fan-led review into the future of the game.
Aston Villa chief executive Purslow was speaking on Talksport with ex-Crystal Palace chairman Jordan and they discussed the prospect of the Premier League sharing more wealth with the Football League.
It sparked an extraordinary debate between the pair which came in the wake of a report that has recommended an independent regulator to oversee English football.
Led by Conservative MP Tracey Crouch, the 162-page document called for action to change the game in the country and to stop clubs collapsing like Bury in 2019.
Steven Gerrard has already made Morgan Sanson decision amid Aston Villa transfer frustrations
Sanson has struggled with injury problems since he moved to Villa in a £14million transfer from Marseille back in January.
Some 10 months has passed since he arrived at Bodymoor Heath, but Sanson has spent as much time on the injury table as he has on the training pitch.
The former France under-21 international was a surprise inclusion in Gerrard’s first match day squad last weekend. While he didn’t come onto the pitch, he did watch his team-mates from the substitutes bench win their first game since September against Graham Potter’s high-flying Seagulls.
Jack Grealish shows Aston Villa’s never far from his mind with Instagram post
Former Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has taken to Instagram to commemorate his first goal against Birmingham City.
The Manchester City playmaker scored in a 4-2 win over Villa’s arch-rivals as they went on to do the double over the Blues in the Championship.
It was three years ago to the day since Grealish played his part in a memorable win and he took to Instagram to share a photo from the Villa dressing room of his number 10 shirt.
Christian Purslow makes Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens point in fan-led review row
Christian Purslow has spoken to both BBC and talkSPORT this morning in light of last night’s release of the Fan Led Review of Football Governance.
The Aston Villa chief executive downplayed MP Tracey Crouch’s calls for a new independent regulator to stop English football “lurching from crisis to crisis”.
Crouch issued a 162-page report calling for action with regards to ownership, governance and football finance amongst other issues blighting the game in England. In short, Crouch wants English football to change for the better and to put a stop to clubs collapsing like Bury did in 2019.
Crouch, who represents Chatham and Aylesford, also detailed her concern of the botched plan with regards to the European Super League and the financial crisis hitting clubs hard lower down the footballing pyramid off the back of the coronavirus pandemic.
