Aston Villa match-winner Kortney Hause believes that his team deserved to take all three points from Old Trafford after going ‘toe-to-toe’ with Manchester United.
The defender scored the only goal of the game with just two minutes of normal time remaining to ensure that Dean Smith ’s men would take all of the points back to Birmingham.
The game ended in drama with United missing a last-second penalty kick, much to the delight of the onwatching Villa fans.
Following the match, Hause gave his assessment, outlining the belief in the Villa squad.
“It’s a massive win for the team. We’ve come away to Old Trafford against Manchester United and it’s a tough place to come against some big players and a big club,” he told VillaTV.
“But we’re Aston Villa and we’ve got some great players as well. We knew we could go toe-to-toe with them and we showed that today.
“I’m just happy we got the three points, it was deserved aswell, we stuck to our game plan, went toe-to-toe with them and had the better chances so I felt as if it was a deserved win.”
The match at Old Trafford was the 26-year-old’s first Premier League start of the season, the defender coming in for Axel Tuanzebe who was ineligible against his parent club.
The centre-back is hoping that his performance will see more starts coming in the future.
“Like any player, I want to play, I’m not here to wait for my opportunity, I believe I’m good enough to play,” he added.
“I’m a squad player like everyone else and whenever I play on the pitch I do my best for myself, the club and my family.”
Taking to Instagram after the game, Hause gave further reaction to the win and a landmark Villa appearance.
”(That was close,)” he wrote.
“What a way to mark my 50th game for the Villa! Proud of the boys, and always an honour to pull on the shirt.
“Fans were unbelievable again. Enjoy your weekends!”
