Jack Grealish’s perfect response as Aston Villa beat Manchester United

Aston Villa recorded a famous win on Saturday when Dean Smith’s side beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Kortney Hause netted the winner in front of Villa’s travelling fans with two minutes left to go when he headed home Douglas Luiz’s corner.

Bruno Fernandes passed up the perfect chance to equalise for United in added time when his cross was handled by Hause.

However, Fernandes blasted his penalty over the bar and into the Stretford End, missing only his second spot-kick of 23 he has taken since he joined United.

Villa got their reward for a good performance full of attacking intent and a win on the road that was coming after fine showings at Chelsea in their last couple of games on the road.

Former Villa captain Jack Grealish won’t have been watching the game as it was on at the same time as his Manchester City side’s 1-0 win at Chelsea.

But the boyhood Villan was happy to see his old side win at United, a pleasing result on two fronts for Grealish given his new allegiances with the blue half of Manchester having signed for City for £100 million in August.

Writing in response to a picture of his friend John McGinn celebrating Villa’s win on the club’s Instagram page, Grealish comments with two clapping hands emojis.

Speaking after the game McGinn delivered his verdict on a memorable win for Villa.

“It was brilliant,” McGinn said. “Not many teams will come here and get three points.

“It was huge for us to set a marker down for this season. It’s been an indifferent start to the season with a lot of new players trying to adapt.

“We’re missing a couple of big players as well, so it’s a huge, huge result. I’m sure everyone in claret and blue will be delighted.”
