School staff were also encouraged to “motivate their pupils to express themselves through poetry”.
A New Monkland Primary spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live : “We used the movie musical The Greatest Showman and the song This is Me as our starting point.
“We looked at the examples of poems that were sent to us from Young Writers and then the children set off to write their own poem.
“As their teachers, we were delighted with what they produced and shared them with the head teacher before they were sent off.
“We then received the wonderful news from Young Writers that every single piece we submitted was going to be published in their This is Me Poetry book.
“Each pupil received a certificate and bookmark from the competition’s organisers and also got a special shout out in school and extra playtime to commend their achievement.
“As a school, we are thrilled that their work has been recognised and can’t wait to see it all get published.”
