Aston Villa have been linked with a shock move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.
According to The Sun, Villa are preparing to make an approach for Jones and will open the bidding at a initial £15million.
Jones is yet to make an appearance this season having been on the substitutes’ bench for only one of the Reds’ three Premier League games.
The 20 year-old broke onto the scene with a stunning winner in an FA Cup clash with Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton in January last year.
He made 34 appearances in all competitions last season, including 24 in the Premier League.
It would be a shock for Villa to go in for Jones but, having made approaches for Emile Smith Rowe and James Ward-Prowse at Arsenal and Southampton respectively, the Liverpool youngster fits the profile of player Dean Smith’s side want to bring in.
Villa have also been linked with midfielders this summer with head coach Smith and sporting director Johan Lange credited with an interest in Sander Berge and Harry Winks of Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Jones, who signed a new deal with Liverpool in July last year, is contracted to his boyhood club until 2025.
A Villa move for Jones looks very unlikely, especially with emerging talents in midfield like Jacob Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka getting Premier League game-time.

And Liverpool fans have been discussing Villa’s chances of signing Jones.
“Difficult to see this happening so late and that price,” one Reds supporter wrote on social media.
Another added: “I like him, I think he is good but he is still only potential. There is no guarantee and I think everyone can see he is not going to make it at Liverpool, but if we can get more for him then it is happy days.”
“I can not imagine he would want to leave Liverpool,” a third fan said.
Another added: “£60 million then we talk, Jones will make it at Liverpool.”
“We would never sell him, there is not a chance as he is not only class but he is a Scouser too,” a fifth supporter said.
