Man charged with drink driving after five people injured


A man has been charged with drink driving after five people were injured in a car crash in Walsall.

Emergency services were called to Walsall Road in Walsall Wood following a collision involving a taxi and a blue Toyota Yaris at around 9.30pm on Sunday, December 5.

Five people were injured in the crash, with one man having to be cut free by fire crews following the incident.

Two passengers from the Toyota Yaris were taken to hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

Selvin Ferguson, of Mill Lane, Walsall, has been charged with drink driving. The 55-year-old has been bailed and is scheduled to appear in court in the new year.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a 55-year-old man with drink driving following a crash on Walsall Road in Walsall Wood on Sunday evening (December 5).

“Five people were involved in the collision between a blue Toyota Yaris and a taxi at around 9.30pm.

“The taxi driver and its one passenger remained at the scene to help with enquiries.

“Two passengers inside the Toyota Yaris were taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully their injuries were not life-threatening or changing.

“Selvin Ferguson, of Mill Lane, Walsall, has now been charged with drink driving and was bailed to appear at Dudley Magistrate’s Court on 13 January.
