Paul Merson tips Tottenham’s Dele Alli to be ‘the answer’ for Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been told to consider making a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.

The former England international has made just eight Premier League appearances this season, and just one of those has come since Antonio Conte was appointed as Spurs boss last month.

Dele started the first games of the season under former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo and scored his only league goal of the season at Molineux from the penalty spot on the second weekend of the season.

But since being hooked at half-time in the North London derby against Arsenal he hasn’t featured from the off once, and Gunners favourite Paul Merson has suggested that a switch could suit both parties.

“They need someone who is willing to run past Jimenez, in my opinion, and that might cause problems,” he said on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday when looking ahead to Wolves’ January transfer window after Saturday’s late defeat to Liverpool.

Neves, Moutinho, they’re all players who spray the ball left and right. They need someone who will run. That might cause problems. At the moment they don’t really look like scoring. 12 in 15 games, that’s not good enough.

“They need a midfield player who is going to nick a few goals. You know what? That might be Dele Alli. If you can get Dele Alli to another club and he can get his mojo back, he might be the answer for them.

“I don’t know too many players that have got that Dele Alli X-factor about him when he is on his game, that he is prepared to run beyond and finish and score goals.”

Wolves did make a move for midfielder Renato Sanches in August but walked away from a deal on transfer deadline day. However, that interest could be reignited in the New Year.
