Pregnant Scots mum of 11 shares how she covers Christmas for her massive brood

A Scots super-mum is sharing her secrets to gearing up for Christmas with her 11 children with strict planning, budgets and a huge Christmas feast.

Zoe Sullivan and husband Ben start meticulously planning and budgeting for Christmas in August in order to make sure every one of their 11 children have the most magical festive day.

And this year will be even more eventful as the couple have just announced baby number 12 is on the way.

The-43-year-old says she and Ben, 46, start saving for Christmas as soon as the summer holidays are finished and fork out up to £2,200 on presents for their brood – with a strict £200-max budget for each child.

The couple, from Lossiemouth, normally spend £320 on the weekly shop, but will spend a whopping £500 on Christmas dinner to feed their huge brood this year.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Zoe said: “As soon as the kids go back to school I immediately start planning and budgeting for Christmas. We just have to otherwise we wouldn’t be able to do it.

“We just need to stick to a strict budget which is usually between £150-£200 for each child. The older ones know their budget and choose what they want and then I will get them some wee stocking filler surprises and then we try and get things all the wee ones will like.”

The couple’s 11 kids are; Elisabeth, 16, Olivia, 15, 13-year-old twins Charlotte and Isabelle, Noah, 11, Evangeline, 10, Tobias, eight, five-year-old twins Leah and Erin, Agnes, four and three-year-old Joseph.

Zoe, who runs her own personalised printing business, is also expecting the couple’s 12th child in April next year.

Christmas is the family’s favourite time of the year and they all pitch in to make it special.

Zoe added: “As the kids get older it’s just getting better and better. We tend to have the morning focussed on the wee ones and then once they’re in bed we can get the cheese board out, play games, do a quiz, watch a movie and all of that kind of stuff with the bigger kids. It’s just an amazing family time.”

The huge family is crammed into a modest four bedroom house but space can get tight with just one bathroom between them all.

Zoe tries to get ahead of the game so her day starts at 4.45am when she is up before the rest of the house to make sure she can get a shower in silence.

Then she starts preparing packed lunches and breakfast while the rest of the family wake up and start their day.

The super-mum said: “We have four teenage girls in the house so you can imagine what it’s like in the morning getting ready for school when we all have to share the same bathroom.

“Ben is in the RAF and goes to work at 7.30am so we make sure we have all had breakfast before then so we can see him before he goes. Then I will make sure the kids are all ready and the older ones head off to school and I drop the wee ones off.”

For Zoe being a mum-of-11 is busy, but even though they will soon add another one to their brood, she found it harder when she just had four kids.

She says: “I had four children under the age of three and that was honestly the hardest stage. Two toddlers and two babies.

“We tried for a third baby and got twins and once I got through that stage I honestly felt like we could do anything – and we have.”

Incredibly the couple’s two sets of twins were all born on the same day – January 25.

Zoe says their birthday is like a mini Christmas Day all over again.

She added: “The house is just full of presents again because it’s exactly a month after Christmas. Our younger twins were actually supposed to be born in April, but they arrived 10 weeks early and on the same day as our older twins so it was a lovely coincidence to have two sets of twins born on the same day.”

This coming April, Zoe and Ben will welcome their 12th baby, but Zoe not necessarily their last.

She said: “We have been trying for baby number 12 for a couple of years and just thought it might not happen because we are both getting older so falling pregnant isn’t as easy as it once was. But then it happened and we were thrilled.

“We are so, so very lucky to have all these lovely healthy children and so blessed to be adding another one to our family. I’m not sure if number 12 will be out last. Never say never!”
