Aston Villa are flying under Steven Gerrard.
Since Gerrard replaced Dean Smith earlier this month Villa have won both of their games and would have kept two clean sheets but for Marc Guehi’s consolation toward the end of Saturday’s win at Crystal Palace.
Villa beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 in Gerrard’s Villa Park bow on November 20 and followed that up with a 2-1 success at Palace last time out.
Gerrard faces one of the sternest tests he is likely to as a Premier League manager when Manchester City head to B6 on Wednesday.
That is why he was keen to move on from the win at Palace on Saturday and concentrate on the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side in midweek, despite Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker’s best efforts.
Introducing Gerrard for an interview on the BBC’s Premier League highlights show, Lineker said: “Steven congratulations, it’s two games and two wins with six points…
“It’s quite easy, this Premier League management isn’t it?
Gerrard chuckled before responding to Lineker, keen to ensure that all the focus is on the visit of City.
Gerrard did reserve praise for his players and how they have responded to life under the Liverpool legend.
“I wish, I wish, City to come on Wednesday so we can’t get carried away,” Gerrard replied to Lineker.
“It has been a really positive couple of weeks, the players have been outstanding in terms of their application.
“They have been listening and have delivered in two games.
“The important thing today was to back up last week and we had to dig in at times but we managed to get over the line which was nice.”
Villa play City before hosting Leicester City on Sunday (4.30pm).
