The best and worst GP surgeries in Redditch and Bromsgrove

The best and worst GP surgeries across Redditch and Bromsgrove according to patients have been revealed.

St John’s Surgery in Bromsgrove was ranked highest in an annual NHS survey, with 95 per cent of patients describing their overall experience of the practice as positive.

In particular, it was scored highly on being easy to get through by phone, how helpful the receptionists are, and the levels of trust patients had in their healthcare professional.

The figures come from the NHS’s annual GP Patient Survey which asks residents for their opinion on a variety of factors, from booking appointments, waiting times, out-of-hours services and the quality of care given.

The top ten highest rated GP surgeries in Redditch and Bromsgrove, with their scores for overall experience, are as follows:

Meanwhile the lowest ranked GP surgery was Crabbs Cross Medical Centre, with only 65 per cent of patients saying they were satisfied with the general practice appointment times available.

A spokesperson for the surgery said: “We understand that we have received the lowest ratings for GP Surgery in Worcestershire, we are saddened by this after being top rated last year.

“We know that the Covid-19 pandemic has had negative impact on general practice.

“Being a single handed GP, and increasing patient demand, we have still managed to provide quality care to all patients and also offer face-to-face appointments during lockdown.

“The practice has been striving hard to manage all patients with terminal illnesses and chronic diseases, this has been our priority. This has obviously had effect on those with acute problems.

“Since the lockdown has been lifted, the surgery appointments have been opened up significantly. Hopefully this should have a positive impact on future feedback.”

Despite lockdown causing problems among certain surgeries, NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG said the results of the survey were ‘encouraging’.

Lynda Dando, director of primary care, said: “This is yet again, another set of encouraging results for Herefordshire and Worcestershire practices, who should also be commended for their efforts throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“All practices across our two counties have worked hard to continue to provide services and care to their patients whilst vaccinating some of our most vulnerable residents. This hard work and dedication can be seen in the positive results of this year’s survey.

“GP practices are open and initial contact should be made by telephone or online, at which point the most appropriate appointment will be offered.

“Please remember to be respectful and polite to all our NHS staff who have been working so incredibly hard to provide you with the best possible care.”
