They say a change is as good as a rest and accepting a new job, meeting new colleagues and getting an overall change of scenery can be really fulfilling.
But what can make it even more of a positive experience is getting a sign-on bonus, a cash sum from a new employer to thank you for taking the job.
The staff shortage crisis post-pandemic has seen businesses offering a sign-on bonus increase by more than 450% according to Charged Retail.
Companies are offering cash incentives to encourage people to take on a new career.
Last month we wrote about how Marks & Spencer was offering a £2,000 bonus to new HGV drivers following a shortage of staff.
And this week Amazon announced it was offering £50 extra cash to colleagues who show up for their shifts on time.
But what jobs are currently up for grabs in Birmingham with a sign-on bonus for successful applicants?
Here are a few:
Warehouse Operative – £1,000 bonus
Amazon is looking for warehouse operatives at a number of sites in the Midlands, including in Minworth.
You don’t need experience, you’ll work as a picker/packer to sort, pack and dispatch Amazon parcels.
They’re offering £10 an hour for daytime shifts, £11 an hour for nights and overtime for between £14.55 and £19.40 an hour.
If you join between now and October 2, you get a £1,000 sign-on bonus.
You can apply here.
3.5 Tonne Delivery Driver – £1,000 bonus
Indeed Flex in Selly Oak is looking for a 3.5 tonne delivery driver and the company is paying up to £11.35 an hour for daytime shifts.
Night shifts and bank holidays pay up to £17.72 an hour and you’ll be paid weekly.
The driver will be paid a £1,000 bonus after completing their first 20 shifts.
As well as driving, the new team member will load the van for deliveries at the start of their shift and do some heavy lifting.

E-Motorcycle Courier – £100 bonus
A much less appealing bonus, but you can get a £100 for delivering groceries in your neighbourhood with Getir.
You’ll get the financial benefit after working 100 hours for the delivery company, but that’s a lot of groceries – the concept is to get groceries to customers in just ten minutes!
You won’t need your own transport – you’ll get an e-motorcycle, insurance and equipment from Getir and earn a minimum of £10 an hour.
The brand says that it also pays up to £90 a week in bonuses and you get tips from customers too.

7.5 Tonne Delivery and Install Driver – £1,500 bonus
Dixons Carphone (soon to be Currys) is looking to employ a driver who can handle a seven and a half tonne trust.
The job is based in Wednesbury, so just outside Birmingham, and you’ll earn £27,500 a year.
You’ll get £500 in your first salary payment and the remaining £1,000 in May 2022.
For the money, you’ll be expected to work an average of 45 hours a week, five days on and three days off. That means you get an additional 33 days off work per year, according to the job listing.
