The expansion means that for the first time, Too Good To Go users will be able to purchase a Magic Bag containing only unsold vegetarian food from its carveries across Scotland and the rest of the UK.
Too Good To Go allows people to buy surplus food and drink from pubs, restaurants, retailers and producers to stop it from going to waste – Greene King has been a partner since July 2018.
Bargain hunters simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby Greene King pubs, restaurants or hotels with unsold carvery food. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.
The ‘Vegetarian Magic Bag’ contains a variety of vegetarian roast dinner trimmings worth up to £8.49 (if purchased at full price) available to rescue on the app for £3.29.
The ‘Roast Magic Bag’ which contains meat is still available to rescue on the app for £3.99.
To date, Greene King and Too Good To Go have prevented 173,763 Magic Bags of unsold food and drink from going to waste, saving 434 tonnes of CO2e from being wasted – the equivalent of that emitted from 86 flights around the world.
Vance Fairman-Smith, supply chain director at Greene King, said: “Our partnership with Too Good To Go has been extremely popular with teams and customers alike as we all work together to minimise the amount of food going to waste from carveries.
“We’re delighted to now be in a position to offer meat-free carveries for Too Good To Go app users, allowing them to enjoy a wide range of vegetables from our carvery deck.”
Paschalis Loucaides, UK Managing Director at Too Good To Go, added: “For a while our app users have been asking us for more vegetarian options, especially when it comes to the popular Greene King Carvery Magic Bags. That’s why I’m delighted that we’re now able to offer a specific vegetarian option from Greene King on the app.
“Not only are we able to provide Magic Bags for a wider section of society to enjoy but, by adding this new Magic Bag we’re also able to ensure even more food is eaten and enjoyed instead of wasted, and continue to have a positive impact on the planet.”
