Wolves fans send message after Sanches deal collapse

Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in bringing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches to Molineux on a loan-deal this summer.

According to This is Futbol, the reason why the deal broke down was due to Wolves concerns over the player’s fitness.

The 24-year-old suffered a meniscal injury on August 14 in the home league game against OGC Nice and has since had surgery meaning he’d be out for two months on top of his rehab.

Wanderers did not want to gamble on a transfer after the uncertainty over the extent of Sanches’ injury.

However, there is still the winter transfer window in January which Wolves could revisit the deal if his injury issues have cleared up.

Following the possibility of Wolves reattempting to seal a deal with the Portuguese, fans have shared their thoughts on social media.

One said: “I still think it was better to get him in so he was secured with us, as you never know a bigger team might go for him in January.”

Another added: “Best way to do it always thought was a bit of a gamble, wished we didn’t spend so long trying to sign him, could have gave us more time on other targets, only thing is it may give us a good chance in January, showed we wanted him and he was happy to come.”

A third continued: “Let’s hope, but we’ll have to compete with bigger clubs for his signature, can we just go all out and get Botman and Sanches in a double swoop. We’ll be set then.”

Here is more of the reaction…

Harley V: “They better get him then.”

Frank Gibbons: “In January, when transfer fees are inflated…”

Jack Jones: “Makes more sense than signing him to sit him in the stands for however long, wasting money on assets we can’t use.”

Wayne Mckie: “Be too late. He’ll be going to a bigger club, that ship has sailed.”

Ali: “May as well make an offer for Messi as well.”

Wazza: “Expected this but now more clubs will look to hijack it.”

Mickey-Wilson: “Makes more sense.”

Brendan: “I beg.”

Paul Cresswell: “We’ll be below Arsenal by then, mark my words.”

Stone Wolf: “Too late then, big club will snap him up.”

Jon Agar: “That makes more sense. You do get the feeling that Lille and Sanches were trying to pull a fast one and true extent of injury was disclosed. Imagine the fire storm if we had signed and he couldn’t play until Jan 2022.”

Mario: “So why not buy him now when he’s gonna be much cheaper and have less interest from bigger clubs. We’re going to have to play much more money than what they were asking for it, he’s fit. Makes no sense at all.”

Key Stone Cops: “Will then probably pay more. Why not sign him now, integrate into team & then he’s ready when fit? Strange one!”
